Well having just purchased a 2002 Boxster S to modify a bit, the first thing I did was search the internet for forums to join. 

My first find was thing one and the first thread I noticed potentially has an answer to my first problem - a locked stereo!

That worked, unfortunately, I learned one of the knobs on the new unit isn't working..the wifey will test it out and see how annoying a partially working tuner knob is.  I may be back if we swap it out!
