2006 Cayenne s titanium starts but won’t move

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I just picked up my new Cayenne. It starts and will go into gear (with a clunk).

reverse (just revs and hits limiter at 4500)

neutral (creeps forward)

drive (will move forward but you must rev it up to get it to move at all, then after a few feet it slams to a stop)

PSM light on, CEL on.

battery is decent have a tender on it during diag.

codes: speed sensor A intermittent/too high p0503, ambient and oil temp too high/intermittent.

will go into 4wd no change on how trans acts.

i have peeled up the carpets and fixed a handful of corroded wires.

almost feels as if parking brake is on or the car is not actually in gear. Jacked up rear end wheels spin freely in gear (not park) and out of gear

any ideas?

Still thinking it is an electrical issue! It seems like the psm ecm are not allowing the trans into gear. Will definitely be picking up a Durametric or piwis. Figured I would put it out there to see if anyone else has experienced similar things or has any ideas on things to check or try.

The stability management system and DME should not be capable of doing that; only invoking "limp mode".  You will not be able to "pick up" a PIWIS, they are only available for lease at $20,000 for the first year.  That said, you need to get the car scanned before moving forward; anything else would just be guesses.

lol I should pick and choose my words carefully. I was referring more to picking up a Porsche specific scan tool (along with the fact that I am new to the whole Porsche diagnostic game). Just curious is it possible this “limp mode” would not allow a gear to engage. Does not sound likely. Another possible route would be the transfer case stuck in Neutral/not functioning normally. Or the shift cable not fully engaging a gear. In any case I understand that without a proper scan this is just one big guessing game.

P0503 Vehicle speed sensor - no signal/above limit value

Possible cause of fault
♦ No signal or faulty signal from PSM control module
♦ Rear right wheel speed sensor faulty
♦ CAN data bus faulty
♦ PSM control module faulty

How did interior wires get corroded? Was this vehicle in a flood?

Classic Cayenne plugged drains. It’s the spliced wires under drivers and passengers carpet. Near dead pedal. Now thinking it could be low on trans fluid. If I rev it up in neutral and drop it into reverse it will at least bump backwards a bit (I know cringy to think about). Seems like trans wants to do its job but something is telling it not to engage. Thank you guys for your responses you’re like celebrities to me. I have used your advice from many other threads.
