I have a 2001 Boxster S and has the airbag light on. Plug in Piwis and PST2 and same thing happens. I cannot erase the 5 faults even though showing not current. I decided to add a couple of faults by changing coding like belt buckle and seat belt. I re wrote the coding and now have 10 faults that I cannot erase. Returned the coding to original and still unable to clear the now 10 faults. I suspect airbag trigger ( control unit) codes originally were 

3      power supply

195  unknown DTC

29   Ignition circuit  side airbag driver

53   side airbag sensor driver

56   side airbag sensor passenger

 

Anyone have any thoughts before going for the very expensive control unit???
