My battery is dead and I cannot access the frunk.  I have correctly tried various times powering up the system connecting power via the pullout positive lead in fuse box. I have tried battery from two different cars and same result, nothing.  I have also tried opening using the release on along the driver door and also pushing the key fob button but neither of those worked. I'd like to leave a charger or battery keeper connected for an hour to charge the battery but the alarm horn sounds and keeps beeping as soon as I power up using the pullout fuse. I canoot leave that blaring for an hour..


I cannot find the emergency pull described online next to driver side (left) headlight. These appear to be nonexistent on my Boxster. Photos of my car and the image on web showing location of release.  I also cannot find the the emergency pull described over various forums as being on top of underside of driver side (left) fender. That wire looks like it has been broken or cut.  Nothing resembling a release is found on the passenger side either. 


Any advice  and tips on getting the trunk open are greatly appreciated. Thank you!!


  • I have purchased battery keeper to use after I get access.
  • The cigarette lighter was replaced with USB outlet
  • Cannot disable horn (drain battery) by pulling fuse C3 as described online

Thanks again JFP!  I had looked on this side first but was thrown off the trail by a post for a 997 C4S that shows cable on other side. Also, when I looked, the loop was tucked way back in the fender well. With many thanks to you, I found it! My first tasks are to reroute the cable and make this easier to find. Then, will install a permanent connector for the C-Tek battery keeper.  I also did manage to disconnect the main horn easily, but the alarm horn still sounds. I need to add a disabling switch.

People tend to think that all Porsche's are laid out the same way, which could not be further from the facts if you tried.


Glad you found it.


And you do not need a special connection for the Ctek unit; these cars were designed so that the cigarette lighter socket stays hot all the time so you can plug the Ctek into that, run the wire out the driver's door thru a recess in the lower seal on the bottom of the dour almost directly below the door mirror, close and lock the car with the alarm on, and still have the maintainer keeping the system charged.  Every Boxster made is this way 😉

One of the best thing about owning this car is the connections with helpful and knowledgeable people such as you who are kind enough and willing to help others.  I am grateful thank you.  I am a non-smoker and converted the cigarette lighter to a double USB and added another in the trim above the shifter.  Here are some photos in case anyone wants to do same.
