Should I pay the dealer to do a 15K service?

Recommended Posts

My 04 C2 Cab has 15K miles and I called my dealer for service info. They want $569 to do the 15K mile service. It includes oil and filter along with the pollen filter replacement. I can do all these things myself. In addition to these things all they really do is inspect a variety of systems in the car, i.e. lights, horn, locks, underbody, etc. Now I don't mind paying for actual repair work but it seems as if the bulk of this 15K service is just looking around at my car! Does this equal $565 worth of real work? What have others here done and is there any problems with voiding the warranty if this service is only done to the extent of the oil and filter changes?

Thanks all

I did the service myself. Kinda - took the oil and filter to Jiffy lube. Had them drain the oil and dispose of it. Put in the oil filter myself as well as the pollen filter while they were draining the oil. Paid $50 to Porshce mechanic to actually come out to my house and inspect the car. He brought his diagostic computer with him. Pays to be nice to these guys. Anyway, cost - about $175. With the money I saved, bought new tips. :jump:

Yes, let the dealer do it, your car is under warranty, it pays to throw them a bone now and then, esp if you ever have a claim issue or need goodwill later.

Now I've worked on cars/race cars for 25 yrs and could easily do it, and do many of my mods myself, but it pays to stay in good graces with the dealers IMO.

Others I'm sure will have a different take on it, to each his own.
