p1128, p1130, p0300, p0306, p0305, p0304, smoke,et

Recommended Posts

well the CEL light came on and the car smokes for about a minute on startup. also

at idle, there is a slight shake, its not running smooth, but that eases on and off.

also before it was only at startup and a slight amount of smoke. a week later and

now it is a very big amount of smoke and sometimes it will shoot out smoke while

driving for a souple seconds and then subside.

the obd II reader gives me the following

p1128 - Coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature.

p1130 - O2 sensor circuit malfunction ( bank 1, sensor 1 )

p0300 - random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

p0306 - cylinder 6 misfire

p0304 - cylinder 4 misfire

p0305 - cylinder 5 misfire

it seems that that whole bank is misfiring ( due to O2 sensor? ).

i also keep seeing similar faults due to the oil seperator and/or clogged throttle body.

this is an '01 boxster 2.7 with 50k miles on it. no mods. driven well for the most

part, but do race it sometimes.

any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Due to the large amount of smoke and sometimes poor performance, I'd keep it in the garage until you take care of the problem.

The smoke sounds like the oil separator. It's easy and only about $100 to DIY. Takes about 1 1/2 hours to do it from the top. The smoke goes away within 3 starts if that cures it.

i opened up the engine bay and found something interesting. there is a small tube which leads from the back trunk ) around oil dipstick area. it is in the rear, passenger side of the engine bay. this normally is a circular tube. but once i start the car up, it flattens out flat with creases on the side. there also seems to me much more dirt/grime/oil residue over this tube than any other part of the engine.

i took pix and also a video of startup and it flattening. will post these up soon. is this the oil seperator people talk so frequently about?
