Fabspeed GT3 Cup muffler bypass pipes

Spoke with Fabspeed regarding muffler bypasses for GT3. They told me that they got a doner car in, fabricated the pipes and they are now in production, 2-3 weeks away. They indicated that you can expect a 15hp gain and a 50lb weight reduction by losing the mufflers...Does this sound reasonable, especially the HP gain??? Opinions appreciated. Sounds like the best $500 mod one could do....

Are there any negative affects by reducing exhaust back pressure or is this all good, if you can bare the sound????

On a normally aspirated car, you'd normally loose a fair bit of bottom end torque and gain up to 5% at the top end. In order to benefit from a free-er flowing exhaust, you'd have to modify the intake and re-map the ECU at the very least. This will only give you some positive results if such a *package* is properly engineered and it is very difficult to beat the factory with one.

Well that's good to know, since driving at the top end of things with this car is highley illegal...on the street that is...I wonder about the fab max flo mufflers with a free flow BMC filter...Do you think that could provide a beneficial package??? I would like a little more aggressive sound package with a little performance boost....Thanks in advance Viken!!!

Not much different results than I stated before. Unless you are looking to alter the sounds of the car, I wouldn't waste my money on that stuff.

Good point, guess I have been hanging around a turbo board too much lately where the general discussion always points to a new mod of the day... B)

FWIW, on turbocharged engines, one might see a significant difference in performance by changing to a well engineered free flowing exhaust alone. This is because these engines do not require as much backpressure as normally aspirated engines. Save your money and spend it on something more useful.
