Wiring diagram for auto-dimming rear mirror

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for the pin assignments for the auto-dimming rear-view mirror that comes standard on a 987. There are 6 pins; 1-5 are used; 6 is blank.

Here are the wire colors if this helps:

1 - White

2 - Black

3 - Gray

4 - Yellow

5 - Brown

6 - NOT USED

I presume these somehow correspond to:

12 V

Ground

Reverse

?

?

I'm not sure of which is which. Is White 12V and Black ground? Can anyone with access to a wiring diagram help?

All the wires should be a base color with a stripe color (i.e Black/Orange, Black/Blue, etc.). Brown is always ground.

You are talking about the interior anti-dazzle mirror not the door anti-dazzle mirror - right?

Yes I am talking about the interior anti-dazzle mirror on a 987. On the 987 the pin assignments are not labeled, and there are no striped wires on the wiring harness... just solid white, black, gray, yellow, and brown. On the aftermarket mirror for 986/996 they are at least labeled as 12V, IL, GND, RI, +0, -0. Any way for me to tell which is which?

For what it's worth, on a 986 they are;

A1 - TERM 15 (BK/OG)

A2 - TERM 31 (BN)

A3 - BACKUP SIGNAL (BK/BU)

A4 - ACTUATION + (YE)

A5 - ACTUATION - (GN)

  • 13 years later...

Im almost feeling guilty bringing 13 years old thread from the grave, but here is the correct answer,

Power - Orange/Black

Ground - Brown

I found this out with multimeter when I hardwired my radar detector.
