Intermittent horn when locking car

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that sometimes when I lock the car from the key fob the lights blink and the horn "bleeps" once. Then other times the lights blink but the horn doesn't "bleep" at all. I have paid attention and all of the conditions (windows up, parking brake on, both boots shut, etc..) are the exact same, so the horn part appears to be intermittent.

A) is the horn supposed to bleep or not under normal circumstances when locking down ?

B) if so, what might be causing mine to do so only intermittantly ?

Actually, I just thought of something....

when we were away on vacation I was locking the glove box, which I don't normally do, and the horn was bleeping on lock down. When I got home I noticed that the horn was back to not bleeping, but the glove box was probably unlocked at this point. Would that be it? The horn doesn't bleep if the glovebox is left unlocked - even in a locked car ?

The horn bleeps when the glove box is not closed well. Maybe a problem with the electrical contact.

It has nothing to do with it being locked or unlocked.

Mine exhibits the same symptoms. It's on a streak of beeping when locked lately, but other times just the lights flash. Quite strange!

Jon

the lights should flash when it arms, but it will only beep when it thinks something is open (usually the glove box) but could be the front or rear hood or either doors

I had the same problem with my 987. After verifying it was not the glove box I found it was the rear trunk. I removed the latch mechinisim behind the trim and found the culprit, a lose micro switch on the latch plate. It had shifted in it's mount and was giving an erratic rear trunk closed signal. I was able to correct it with a nylon screw that blocked it's shifing again..

I live over a 100 miles from the closest Porsche Dealer so this simple fix saved using a loan car and drive that otherwise would have resulted.

Summary: a little investigation and simple fix save a time consuming trip and I learned a little more about my car. The problem has not resurfaced in over a year.

Good Luck

I see we are both from NJ Jon. Must be something with the "Jersey" cars. :P
