How do I get that Lighter Socket out? !

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please help me get the Lighter holder out of my plastice dash trim that surrounds my nav?? I got all the bttons out, and got the wiper speed control out, but that stupid lighter holder will not come out? PLeas someone have a diagram or picture that tells this man with the disassembled dash how to get that thing out so I can finish my arctic silver upgrade and go to the grocery store... :(

uhhh..ok push the light "bracket" out sideways?? I am still dumbfounded...got the gurad off, but cant see what exactly I am supposed to be pushing sideways on....the little metal flap haning down, or the green plastic, or the silver metal housing?? Is there a better picture to see what to push on?? I have a tendancy to break things...I am somewhat of a meathead.

I changed it last year on my father's car and it was a complete and total PITA. I finally got it off, but on reinstallation, the lighter never seemed to sit as crisply. I think I might have bent something. Such a hassle. It requires force, but not too much force, if you get my drift.

I've done this a few times now. The way I do it (described in that other thread) involves removing the light bracket last. The "hard" part is separating the clear plastic sleeve and the metal lighter cylinder. That is accomplished by:

- holding the clear plastic sleeve while twisting the metal cylinder about 10 degrees (enough so that the clips are no longer in the slots)

- pushing the metal cylinder out of the clear plastic cylinder (you have to push pretty hard but not terribly hard)
