C4 Sports Exhaust advice

Recommended Posts

I have a 99 C4 and I have always been a little disappointed with the in car sound and would like to improve this.

I take it I will have to get a new exhaust/muffler? Whats the best ones on the market?

I am not looking for optimum performance, but I am looking for good sound and something that can be quieter as I leave the house before 6am and want to live with my neighbours. It mustnt compromise the realiabilty either.

If I go easy on the gas are these exhausts quieter in the morhning? I heard of a quiet switch on the porsche unit to get past the EU regs?

appreciate any comment

Hi bigmds.

Go for the stock Porsche Sports Exhaust ( PSE). I too live in the UK and leave before 6am so this was a consideration for me. When I had it fitted, the sound was great and at low revs coming out of my garage there is very little increase in noise at all. I would say that my neighbours motorbikes and souped up astras make more noise than me!!

I would not worry about the cut-offf switch-this will take the OPC 9 hours extra labour (compared with 2 for the exhaust fitment alone). You will never use it anyway.

I got a good deal with my OPC-about £1100 fitted.

Good Luck

You got a really good deal at £1100 incl. fitting, my OPD has quoted

hardware £1019+VAT plus fitting £620+VAT

giving the grand total of £1925 :(

Was your deal repeatable?

On the PSE: If you aren't installing the switch, and want to save a little, it's really easy to install the mufflers yourself.

You can get a nice price on the PSE hardware at carnewal and put it in yourself.

Send me an e-mail to netrophile@aol.com and we can discuss. Someone recently called me after I posted when I got my PSE. I called up my OPC, and they agreed a deal (I think the price was a little more though) with this chap. I dont know whether he had it fitted in the end or not but all this happened around Chrsitmastime.

I am on good terms with the parts/service guys so if I can help a fellow enthusiast will be a pleasure!

:)
