Boxster in-dash TV/DVD player

Recommended Posts

In the Boxster console, I would like to remove the CD tray and the compartment below it and install a 6.5" flat panel TV / DVD player. The question I have is that these players are twice as tall as a standard in-dash radio. So, would the console fit two in-dash devices? The bottom compartment in the Boxster's console does not look square and I am concerned with the fit.

And why do you want to watch TV/DVD's in your Boxster??

Will use for navigation, play a collection of music DVD's, and connect the video iPod possibly control via emulation on the large screen.

Very nice!

I've been looking for alternatives to the PCM/Bose combo, and this solution seems to fit the bill.

Attached is a picture for a Kenwood setup on a 987 ...

But I've been wondering,

Where can I find a silver panel to mount the unit on and retain the OEM look?

This is exactly what I want to do in my boxster as well! However, since I have a 2003, don't I have a problem with the MOST fiber optic system that my car uses? I read somewhere that the speakers are connected with fiber, so does replacing the stock radio mean that I have to replace the speakers as well (and rewire everything)? I want to replace the speakers at some point as well, but not right away.

How do people solve the MOST problem?

PS the combo i'm looking at is the Alpine IVA-W200 with bluetooth, GPS and iPod modules added on to it.

Rock!

Do you have a link to page that shows the kenwood/987 install?
