BOSE premium sound package

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'd like to install the BOSE premium sound package behind the seats in my 97 boxster.

I just upgraded to a 6 channel amp.

Do you know if the amp will support the Bose system?

Have you guys tried this before?

Thanks,

Fred

Does it actually fit in? Bose uses lower Ohm resistance in its speakers. See if the amp's resistance is consistent with the Bose. It should be okay. Do you know how to wire the amp to speaker? Sounds like the plug has a lot of pins.

Alternatively, the Infiniti basslink is good and more compact. it's also self amplified.

I have not purchased the Bose system yet, so I don't know what the wires look like.

I just figured, I could cut the plug and run the wires directly into the amp using new connectors.

I'd like to know more about this Infiniti system. My problem is that I don't have a rear storage compartment.

Thanks,

Fred

Basslink is about 1'x1 and 6-8" thick' that is self amplified. Crutchfield and all stereo shops sell them. The sound is better than bazooka (crap) and it's more compact. I don't have a 986 but you can install this behind the seats (I think there is a little room there)

  • 3 weeks later...

Fred,

I had the Bose base box fitted in my 98' 2.5 a couple of months ago. My car had the sound upgrade package from new, so it already had the amp installed on the bulk head and the door speakers. The amp looks the same as the one in your pics, is it made by Nokia?

I also fitted a new head unit; the Becker traffic pro. The shop who did the install said that when they wired the system up it sounded pretty crappy so they played around with different combinations to get the best sound. They settled on:

The front amp runs the base box only

The amp in the head unit runs the door speakers and the ones on the dash.

The door speakers were junked in favour of some two way Pioneers (sorry don't know the model)

It sounds incredible. An obvious disadvantage is that you cant use the front/rear fader control but I don't find it a problem. Just crystal clear sound at up to 80mph. You could obviously get a better sound system but I like to keep my cars looking standard.

Next step is to upgrade the dash speakers. With the volume wound up they sound a little harsh.

I'm in the UK but...

The Traffic Pro, Silverstone changer and installation cost me £700

The Bose Base box and Pioneer door speakers I had fitted a few weeks later. That cost me another £350.

I admit, for that kind of cash you could buy a better sounding system. But I like the standard look.

Also, as none of the louts round my way know what a Becker is, it's less likely to get pinched.

That's not a bad price for the Bose box + door speakers.

If it helps, I put these in the dash (Kenwood KFC-P403): http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=12034

They're low-priced, but good. The trick in the dash is to get shallow speakers because there's a support bar a couple inches below the dashboard. These speakers are as deep as you can go for install depth, and they have the lowest frequency response range I could find for the size. My goal was to get a little more bass out of the dash so I didn't have to crank the bass setting up and distort the sound at volume. These speakers have as much bass on a setting of "3" as the factory speakers did on a setting of "8". My next step is to put some speakers in the back (I like the Bose bass box, but I alredy have a storage compartment so I'll probably play with that).

Others have put higher-end speakers in the dash, but I bought mine for about $80 and all the better stuff that was recommended was a lot more expensive.
