rear truck lid wont open

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 boxster s. the rear trunk is operated electrically but when I turn on switch - nothing happens. Any way for me to open before taking to mechanic ?

There is a thin cable wire that runs from the latch down into the rear bumper cover, ending behind the drivers side rear wheel. Find that wire and give it a yank. It's purpose is to provide a manual way of opeing the trunk if the electric mechanism fails. You might have to loosen/remove the black plastic cover to get you hand in behind the bumper cover to get to it.

Here are pictures of the rear emergency release cable. The bumper cover happened to be off for another reason, so I took pictures of the cable..

Good luck finding the loop on the end of the cable when the cover is on. It is covered by the silver heat shield you see in the pictures.

Thanks a lot for the pics, they helped me very much. Got the trunk opened by just removing the left corner heat shield nut (directly behind the rear driver side wheel and then pulling down the shield enough to stick my hand inside, the cable was right there, grabbed it and pulled and it popped right open :)
