  1. I just checked out the cost of the latch assembly. It's $189+ for the part. Can the micro switch be removed from the latch assembly and replaced?
  2. Something is weird, I came down to the garage last night and the engine compartment lid light is on. The bulb was hot and burnt my finger to the touch. It was on for several hours. I did not open the hood/boot since the afternoon. I can't find a switch to turn the bulb off, so I had to remove it. How does the engine compartment light goes off, when the hood is closed? There's got to be a pressure activated switch somewhere. I looked for an electrical diagram and searched the thread. Does anyone know? Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Rocker Panel Removal, Paint and Re-install I always wondered why the black or charcoal gray 996 turbos look better proportioned and meaner looking. The reason I figured out is that the black rocker panel gives the 996 a better balanced look. If you have a lighter color car or a yellow one like mine, the car appears somewhat squishy and long. After painting the rocker panels to match, the car looks better balanced. At first, I was a little apprehensive about removing the rocker panel, but decided I couldn't live with it the way it was Author contsaga@sbcglobal.net Category TT/GT2 (996) - Accessories Submitted 01/22/2012 12:57 AM Updated 01/22/2012 06:04 AM

The reason I figured out is that the black rocker panel gives the 996 a better balanced look. If you have a lighter color car or a yellow one like mine, the car appears somewhat squishy and long. After painting the rocker panels to match, the car looks better balanced. At first, I was a little apprehensive about removing the rocker panel, but decided I couldn't live with it the way it was. I saw other 996 and 997 Turbo;s with the rocker painted and had to do mine. A auto restorer charged me $200 to paint it and an hour of labor for me to take it off and re-install. The body shops wanted $650 to do the whole thing. The job was straight forward and easy. Only thing is that it's better to put the rubber grommets on the rocker panel tabs before assembly into the car. See the DIY. Here's a D.I.Y. with pictures. Porsche 996 Turbo Rocker Panel Removal, Paint and Re-install Before painting, the car looks squished and long After painting, the proportions are more balance and muscular! Tools Needed: ¼” ratchet, Small stubby screwdriver and T-25 Torx tip Rear Wheel Well- Remove 3 Torx screws Front Wheel well- 2 Torx screws Remove 5 Torx Screws from under the length of rocker panels Remove rocker panel from undercarriage of car. Remove rubber grommets from panel 10 Rubber Grommets in rocker undercarriage and grommet closeup Removed rocker panels Left and Right side Rocker panels back from the painter-unpainted areas are masked off with masking tape Align mounting bracket with Hole (-->) Rear View Be sure attachment clips and screw brackets are in place. Attachment clips on undercarriage seam in place and have not moved Place rubber grommets onto tabs of rocker panel. Do not place into holes in rocker undercarriage of vehicle. If placed in hole of undercarriage, it will be forced into rocker cavity during panel installation. It is very hard to remove pieces of grommet once the piece is inside rocker cavity. Align rocker panel with rubber grommets to respective hole Insert front of rocker panel behind wheel well. Align with holes and hold with 1 screw Carefully insert each grommet into hole and rotate panel into locking position. Work from front to rear. Hand tighten one screw into rear wheel well to hold panel in place Screw the 5 Torx screw into underside of panel mount clips and then front and rear clip screws into respective mounting clips. There are 3 in rear and 2 in front. Tighten securely but do not over tighten. You are now finish! (Edit: Made images show - converted Word doc to PDF - Loren)
