I finalize the CDR all tracks at once. I was told that the Lens units in car players are single elements verses 3 elements that are the norm for home players. The single lens type has a harder time reading the burned pits as oppoosed to the actual pits on a commercial CD. The lens also have a harder time reading the outside edge of a disc verses the inner area. This is why possibly I am having trouble at the end of the discs???

I also burn my CDR's at a slower speed to prevent high errors and use high quality name brand ones.

Last question. Does the hiccup mean the CD stops? Mine does it occasionally, especially with long CDR's over 65 minutes.

IIRC, there is a TSB on odd behaviour with homemade CD's. Can't recall if it applies to the PCM or not but a quick call to the OPC should confirm.

I have a Boxster (2005). I have the in dash CDR24 player. I burn CD'R's on my computer to use in the car.

The player occassionally has difficulty playing discs. The player will stop and the radio comes on. So far I only notice it towards the end of the burned CD-R's.

Some discs that won't play will play at other times??? Go figure.

My wife's BMW exhibited the a similar problem. The discs are fine because they play in our various home CD players. Any thoughts or similar problems. I wish I could just hook up my IPOD.

Hi all, yesterday I picked up my new 987 but the fun did not last too long.

The trouble started when I tried to run a copied CD in the CDR24 system. The CD was loaded and it ran. You could see 'TRACK1' on the display and you could hear music....

... but somehow the system hung up (no, I don't think it's running MS Windows :P ). No control worked any more, all the buttons were dead. I couldn't change the volume, I couldn't turn it off, I couldn't get the CD out.... nothing. Turning the ignition on/off did not help.

Ok, the dealer ran a onboard diagnosis and reset everything.... without success -> Turn the ignition on and the music plays, but no chance to stop it or switch to radio mode.

The only way to reset the whole system was to unconnect the battery for a few minutes. After this and another reset of the errors it worked again... puh.

- Did somebody experience the same problem?

- Does the system always hang up when trying to play selfmade CDs? (the manual only says that eventually it cannot play copy-protected CDs).

Problem is the OPV (Oil Pressure valve) It is not a malfunction, just a bad design. Porsche will replace with a modified unit if owners complain. The newer unit has a different designed piston. The noise does not effect the car or operation. It is just annoying and scarey to hear not knowing what the heck it is.

The dealers in the states are not too aware of this issue. I should them posts from the various Boxster forums to back my claim. The dealer was looking for loose components until they contacted a Porsche field specialist who was aware of this issue. Thanks to all that chimed in, I got to the bottom of this issue.

I don't think it is a problem. Ask a fellow Boxster owner (or dealer) to let you listen to another car. I think you will find they all do this.

That was my guess. I made an appointment with my dealer to see if they stumle upon something loose. When it gets loud is sounds like a rattle along with the hum. I will post what they find. I bet they say they cannot find it though. I had a creeking clutch pedal that took them 3 visits to find! The pedal did it everytime unlike my new problem. I had to stick the mechanics head under my dash on the 3rd visit. Then the light went on is his brain!!!

Does the air pump just operate when the car is warming up?

Yes, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner to me. It usually runs only about 5 minutes. It is for emissions.

It happens after about 3-5 minutes into the ride. It sounds like something humming, sometimes loudly. It lasts on and off while moving for about 5 minutes and then it is gone for the rest of the day. I would take it to the dealer but they would have to keep the car for a few days and drive it to try and hear the noise. Sometimes it is loud, sometimes very quiet and... sometimes not there at all. Really strange

I am having a problem where upon starting the car for the first time of the day (warm weather) After about 3 minutes or so of driving I hear a strange humming sound when the car is moving. It lasts for about 5 minutes and never sounds again until the next day. It is sometimes loud and other times not so loud. It appears to be coming from the engine compartment the best I can tell. It is not the blower and it does not happen everytime. Any ideas or similar problems?

Could be the Air pump, for the engine that comes on at start up.

Upon my 3rd visit to the dealer, they replaced the clutch servo spring which seems to fix the problem. The clutch pedal tension is now super smooth a much lighter than before. Before the clutch pedal had a stiffer tension.

The next day I took it to the dealer thinking it had to be just lubed. Of course the noise stopped whan at the dealer. The dealer told me that they had reports of this problem and that they should replace the cross shaft and related bushings. I agreed to the repair which was under warranty. The next day after driving about 20 miles it did the exact same thing. Needless to say I am really pissed. I contacted Porsche USA and I am waiting to see what they come back with.
