  1. Hello-

Just got my car back last week from a dealer oil change (04 S). I happen to be washing the car, and I peered into the side vents - the driver side has a screen behind it. The passenger side, however, does not have one, and I think I can see clear through to the engine. Is this correct? I somehow doubt it, since the opening looks the same as the driver side. If it should have it, the next question is there any reason this would be removed during a yearly service, which was basically an oil change and a brake fluid flush (car has 10k). I just wanted to know whether I should blame the dealer for this.

    Thanks.

  2. Hello-

I just brought my 04 S in for service, one of my complaints being that the clutch pedal squeaks and clicks. They fixed the squeak by lubricating it, however they say the click is normal. I understand that manual cars have a switch so you don't start the car with the car in gear, but out of all of my stick cars, I have never heard them click.

Can anyone verify for me that the clutch pedal should in fact click when depressed? It happens when it is almost completely depressed, when I imagine the switch is activated. It's not real loud, but loud enough where I can hear it if I don't have the radio on.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the info. I also have one other thing to look into - I saw on ppbb someone who posted that his CDR23 did the power cycling thing when his battery was shot. Mine is actually a brand new Optima that I installed before doing the radio - I have yet to start the car with it in, or charge it, so it could just be the fact that the battery is low on power. I will either charge the new battery or put back in the old one to see if that resolves the problem.

Barring any wiring problems, you might have someone with a PST2 / PIWIS run the "Sportscar Handover" routine. That solved my CDR-23 coding problem when I replaced the instrument cluster in my car. Because the CDR-23 doesn't use a specific radio code to enable it to function, it looks at the instrument cluster to determine that it's in the proper car (not stolen).

The sportscar handover routine is normally used by the dealer's techs to electrically wake up the car after being shipped from the factory.

    Cheers,

    Bill

  4. Hello-

My 04 S came to me with a aftermarket radio already installed. I decided to go back to the factory CDR23 since I didn't like the replacement radio. I purchased another CDR23 from an 03 911 off of ebay since the PO didn't have the old radio. I know I need to get them paired, and my car is going into the shop soon for service, however after I hooked up the replacement CDR23, it just continually turns itself on and says PORSCHE, then turns off and back on again, saying PORSCHE again. It does this continually with the car off and the key out of the ignition.

Is this what an unpaired CDR23 will do until I have it paired, or do I have another underlying wiring problem? I clipped in a small yellow connector, a larger black connector, and a small round black connector. I suppose the other possibility is a defective radio, since all I had was the word of the seller that it had functioned properly when removed.

    Thanks for the help!

  5. sent you a PM.

Yeah....when I had the 99 996 I needed a replacement radio and a guy who dealt in the Becker radios sold me a CDR 23 as a replacement....then refused to take it back when I found that it wouldn't work in the 99.....needless to say I was miffed.

That taught me to check these forums before jumping on a "deal". Anyone want a CDR 23....brand new.....cheap? Makes a great paper weight....anchor for a canoe.....bookend.

First of all I would really like to thank everyone out there who are so helpful in putting up all articles such as this to guide us... :renntech:

I own a 2001 Porsche Boxter and recently i baught a hard top from ebay. I guess it doesn't come with the following parts required to be installed to my Porsche:

    986-563-713-02 insert, left, qty 1

    986-563-714-02 insert, right, qty 1

    999-219-041-00 fit bolts, qty 2

I've been looking around and I'm having a hard time looking for these parts....can anyone show me where i can actually purchase these parts?

Are these parts the only required parts to be installed?

Are these parts available in set or should i buy them individually?

Around how much will these parts cost me?

Thankyou very very much to you all

  7. Hello-

I am replacing the head unit and speakers on my 04S. It has the Bose digital setup (with the rear deck speakers). I am thinking since I am replacing the head unit, amp, and the dash and the door speakers, I should also replace the rear speakers. Does anyone know if the drivers in this enclosure can be replaced, and if so, what size are they? Any recommendations?

Also, I am assuming my door and dash speakers are the same size as other years? The grille looks a little different on the doors from what I have seen in pictures, but I'll have to take another look.

    Thanks for the help!

  8. Sorry to revive this 3 year old topic... but does anyone know the part number for the PSE relay being altered on a 986? I would like to have one in stock before I alter the current one. I would think it would be a different part number from the 996 (which has been listed in other threads).

    Thanks!

PS - Sorry for not putting this in part number requests... just noticed it.

  9. jmatta-

Yeah... after I received the part I realized I didn't know what to put in its place! When you say bottom, do you mean the very bottom storage bin that is slightly curved (the one that is displaced by the relocated climate control) or the one right above it?

    Thanks!

    Hey 99miata,

Still working with your console? I had no problem moving the radio to the lower position; it fits right into the slot and locks in. The toughest part is fishing the wires down and the a/c control wires up. The bottom storage bin snaps right in after you remove the tab on top (I used a file). I suppose I should have taken pictures, but I always remember that after the job is done.

  10. A storage bin will fit where the radio goes, so I guess it will fit where the a/c display goes. Don't know for sure. Never seen anyone try to so that. See if it fits.

    Pic from JMatta.

Interesting... I could move the radio down to where that radio is in the picture, since the screen angle is adjustable. Does moving the radio down there just work, or is modification/additional parts needed?

  11. Sorry, I should have mentioned... since mine is an 04, it comes standard with cupholders above the climate control position.

    Here is my dilemma-

I recently bought an 04 S with an aftermarket head unit installed. It is the Pioneer AVIC-N1, which has a pop out screen. The problem is, with the screen out, it blocks the climate control. I know the climate control will also fit in the bottom position, and I have the appropriate trim piece. However, once I move the climate control, what can I put in its place in the top? Does the 4 CD holder fit? What about an empty pocket? I don't just want to put a blank piece of plastic in there. I suppose I could just leave well enough alone, but it kind of bothers me that it's blocked. Thanks for the input!

    cup holders!

  13. That would be great! I'll PM you my details.

    Thanks!

I have an 04 S in which the AC controls are up top, and I would prefer them to be down below in front of the shifter where I have two cubbies. The PO installed a DVD nav system with a screen that pops out and blocks all the climate controls. Is it possible to do this, and if so what parts do I need? Thanks.

If you want, when I move my AC unit, I'll give you the brackets and bezel for it for the very bottom position, if you'd like 'em.

Or another thing you might could do is switch positions of the climate control unit and the stereo/nav unit... but then that might block your AC vents!
