02 996 Cab C2
what up? i've been researching this PSE mod/hack for a while now and still have no idea between the difference of switch or no switch. is it just a sound thing to control? i'm going to do the mod shortly here and would like advice on which way to go. i'm thinking im just going to do no switch for less complications and love the way it sounds, why even have the switch?
You can just replace the mufflers with the flaps safety wired open and all is fine. I did include the switch to have the option to be stealthy, but not the speed sensor wire that turns the PSE quiet at a specific speed.
The electric part of the PSE work is a bit demanding because of the work under the dash and it is a tight fit to put everything neatly back, but very doable.
Another thing to think about is to add the dimming rear view mirror and the rain sensor while you are working on the electrical part of the PSE.

The problem is the CD drive, go to a OPC, they now what to do in this case.
Any specifics to the nature of the problem? I'd like to fix it myself if at all possible.
The local dealer is not good at all with customer service and I'd rather not have them do anything involved. The car is out of warrantee so it will be out of pocket anyway.
Thanks

When entering the car and when removing the key from the ignition switch, there is a mechanical disturbing and somewhat irregular noise coming from the PCM2 nav cd bay.
It sounds as if it is trying to eject the nav cd, or the nav cd is out of balance and rattles as it spins up/down. It does it with and without a cd in the unit.
Strange thing is that a friend's Cayenne Turbo nav unit does the same thing.
Any ideas what the problem might be?

Sometimes if the exhaust tip bottoms out, it deforms inside where the sleeve goes over the pipe (inside the tip)
If you cut the back of the tip, to slide it off the bolt and remove it, and then add another washer on the inside of the bolt, you might be able to tighten things up so the "ringing" or rattling stops. You could also put a screw there through the pipe.
Tapping with a mallet is a good way to find out where the noise is coming from.
There is a TSB about exhaust rattles (for contributing members)

Very nice and detailed description that compeled me to try it on my '03 C2 Targa.
Before starting I need a bit of help clarifying a few things:
- Where and what kind thread locker or anti-seize is needed if any (I got the optimoly TA for the wheel bolts)?
- Porsche asks for the caliper bolts to be replaced. Do you find that necessary even for a 5k mile car?
- Could you identify the parts that you name in the torque lists in a diagram or picture?
- Anything special about the mounting of the stabilizer bars?
- On marking with ink the location of the top strut bolts, you mean put a circle around them to get the positioning identical?
- Is there a new alignment required once it's all done?
- How long does it take for the whole install and are there any special tools other than the spring compression tools?
Thanks a lot
Yannis

I will doing the PSE (muffler only) mod next week and I want to confirm a few of things:
- Are the bypass vacum flaps open (loud) by default (with no vacum connection)?
- Should I safety wire them in that position?
- Should I plug the vacum pipe connection? How?
- Is anti-seize needed on the bolts?
Thanks

Thanks Loren - couldn't do it without your post.
The A-pillar trim was *very* stubborn. There was some sort of glue applied on the two plastic guides, probably as an anti-rattle measure.
The way the trim came out was by undoing the coat hanger and getting a good hold of the trim, pulling down and toward the inside of the vehicle. Once the first 2 clips were out, some firm pulling undid the rest. BTW, the visor didn't need to be removed on the specific car.
The antenna was 134 mm, from the end of the black coax shield to the tip of the translucent insulator of the core. There were 6mm of heat shrink tube at the end of the black coax to hold the core in place. The antenna was trimmed to 130mm.
The range went from 15', to +90'. Now if we could figure an elegant way to make it beep when locked...

Great article on an annoying problem. However, I run into a problem.
How do I remove the A-pillar cover on a Targa?
I tried this DIY method, but the cover stayed firmly in place.

I am using a BMC, it set off my MAF sensor when it was brand new, but after cleaning the sensor, and 10,000 miles later everything has been fine.
How did you clean the MAF sensor?

Steve, enjoy the new feel and congrads on getting through this by yourself.
The hardest part for me was torquing the bolt on top of the piston rod (front) while countering the piston rod with pliers, so reading the diy and getting the right tools for the job definitely pays.
