  1. So I've disconnected the 2 top cables, removed the trim and can see the reservior, but what's the best way to fill it?

    I've read that there's a hex head plug in the fill hole right above the reservoir. Is what I have circled in the picture the plug?

    If so, does it just simply unscrew (counter-clockwise) and you funnel the fluid in the resevoir?

    It's tight and I just want to make sure that I'm not screwing it up. Any other tips?

  2. WOW! Loren, you are the man!

    Still didn't startup this morning, so I cleaned the solenoid. Put everything back together and it fired right up (spit out some gunk).

    Took it for a test drive and it runs like new. Pulls much harder than before. I'm surprised that cleaning the throttle body (possibly check solenoid) isn't part of the scheduled maintenance.

    Anyway, thanks so much for saving me a dealer trip, making my car run so much better for under $3, and giving me the rest of the day off :)

  3. Hello,

    I'm having a starting problem with my 1999 C2 Cabriolet. Originally, the car would fire-up but stall immediately. If I kept the gas pedal pressed a bit as soon as the engine fires, it keeps keeps running, but as soon as I let go it stalls.

    The throttle body had build-up, so I cleaned it with Gumout. I didn't remove the throttle body, so I clean it as much as I could reach with the butterfly valve open. I spray some Gumout to the back of the throttle body, but didn't wipe it down since I couldn't reach it.

    I also cleaned the MAF with electronic contact spray.

    After reinstalling the airbox (with a relatively new OEM filter), the car won't even fire-up anymore. My battery is fine and I did everything with the battery disconnected and even tried again after waiting several hours with the battery disconnected.

    Basically, now the engine won't turnover :(

    - Could this be caused by my spraying of Gumout to the back of the throttle body?

    - Is there a way to just help get the engine to fire-up in hopes that it blows out the leftover carbon that dripped down from spraying Gumout?

    Any other ideas before I get it towed to the dealer?

  4. Nope, battery is fine. Any idea what it means when the airbag light:

    - illumination fails to light up during ignition circuit activation

    I know that there are many reasons it would stay on, such as the seat belt buckle. But since it doesn't even come on during the initial startup, I'm thinking that something in the DME may be not letting the ignition to proceed.

    Anyway, if someone could shed some light on the causes for the airbag illumination fails to light up during ignition circuit activation, I would be greatful.

    By the way, just had it towed to the dealer.

  5. Help! I'm stuck at my store because my car won't start. Basically, it's like I'm not pushing the clutch down all the way. The only thing I noticed is that during the ignition sequence, the

    - illumination fails to light up during ignition circuit activation

    (Got it from the manual)

    Does anyone know what the cause could be? Does it mean that the car thinks it's been in an accident and a switch is activated to not allow it to start? I tried to disconnect the battery for awhile and reconnect, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions before I call for a tow?

  6. My Lidatek LE-30 is on it's way and been thinking about the install. Anyone know if I can use the footwell light toggle switch (996.613.980.00) in place of the power switch that is provided with the system? Here's the schematic: <http://www.lidatek.com/gfx/LE-20_schematic.gif>

    Since it will be ON most of the time, I'm thinking that I could have the the switch illuminate when the unit's turned off.

    Does this sound possible?

  7. Loren's 3rd radiator installation lists 4 additional Screw Type Hose Clamps are required. The part number in the instruction are 999 512 551 00.

    My dealer couldn't pull up the clamp using the part number. Instead, they had 999-512-499-00. Based on the diagram, it seemed to be the most widely used screw clamp. Will this work instead of 999 512 551 00? If not, could someone give me the size of the 999 512 551 00 clamp so I can just get one that works from the hardware store?

  8. I understand that Porsche has fixed RMS leaks at no charge for cars out of warranty. Has anyone had to pay to have one fixed? If so, was there a reason given. Also, how much did it cost?

    My '99 has developed a small leak (center of the vehicle, infront of the oil pan) and I wanted to determine worst case scenario before I visit the dealer.

  9. Thanks Loren, but I think removing the seat cushions would be my last resort. Before I go that route, I'll try and better describe what I'm trying to do, so maybe you or someone else has a better suggestion.

    The problem is that the front hinge mechanism that connects to the rails (via 2 bolts attached to the rails which secure the seat to the car via the 4 bolts) is connected to the wrong bolt near the seat cushion bottom. The hinge mechanism is connected to the bolt closer to the front of the seat rather than the correct one (2 bolts are just over 2 inches apart). The 2 bolts I'm referring to look like they screw in from the side of the seats if the leather coverings are off. On the side of the seat adjustment controls, the 2 bolts look like the could be accessed if the controller panel is removed. I've removed the 2 visible small screws that seem to be the only ones holding the seat control panel to the side of the seat, but it still seems to be attached. Any idea if I just need to use more force to pop the panel off the seat? Or do I still need to remove something else attaching it to the seat?

  10. I'm trying to replace the manual 1999 seats (only seat backs are power) with manual 2002 seats. Everything's fine except the 02 drivers side seat will only tilt backwards when you pull the lever to raise/lower the seat. The front mechanism of the seat seems to be locked and doesn't lower, so when you try and lower the seat to the lowest setting, only the back lowers and the seat tilts back. Also there are two plugs on the 02 seats that the 99 didn't have and I can't find a place to plug them in.

    I've compared the seats and the front mechanism of the 02 seats are hinged to a different spot than the 99 seats. The 02's are hinged to the bolts closer to the front of the seat.

    Do the new manual seats have power controls for raising and lowering of the front part of the seat in addition to the seat back tilting?

  11. I installed mine by drilling 2 holes in the battery mount plate and the base of the Optima. It's mounted about center of the plate and didn't need a longer terminal cable. I used a couple of 1/4" bolts to secure the battery to the plate. It was pretty easy. Only issue would be that I need to remove the battery mount plate anytime I need to remove the battery. I'll take pictures if anyone's interested.
