  1. I agree with J-rad that an email to Strosek will probably clear things up. I think what people are saying here (including me) is that front and rear aero kit components have to be installed as a set. This applies to Porsche aero-kit rear spoiler and front bumper only. If Strosek have developed their own set perhaps it is just fine to leave it as is.

  2. I think the aero kit installation instructions mention this problem. The customer can install the side skirts alone, but if they go for the rear spoiler they have to install the front aero bumper as well. Porsche will not install the rear spoiler alone.

I would talk to a porsche dealer about alternative ways to fix this problem (install aero bumber, perhaps just the splitters, or remove the rear spoiler).

  3. I thought the reason for these forums was to make the Porsche community more in touch with fellow enthusiasts. If someone has a bad experience or a good one everyone should know. That is the beauty of the internet. Chuck Jones: Mr. Gorin said that I was acting like his 15 year old daughter.

I couldn't agree more with you - as long as the name and contact info of the person posting (you in this case) is known to the forum owner so he can disclose it in case it is required. This is the beauty of the internet and a very good reason for every professional to act responsibly.

  4. RJN is correct to say that the advertised disc is PCM1. The 996 started with PCM1. MY03 (and later) 996s got PCM2. As far as I know the two systems are not compatible at all and cannot share maps. So I think, after a lot of research, the only hope is for Porsche to release new maps in PCM2 (v3) format.

  5. Thank you Loren for your reply :D . If this is the case then I guess I can replace the oil pressure sensor (since it is inexpensive) and make sure the coolant tank cap closes properly and re-evaluate the symptoms. The leak I was referring to is absolutely minimal (go from a-little-below-max to min in two months) and I am almost certain it is from the cap.

  6. Symptom #1

My MY03 996 cabriolet has been leaking a very small amount of coolant (I think) from the cap even though it is the newer part. I haven't had a chance to clean it properly and make sure it "clicks" when closed. Today, I opened the cap to clean it and noticed pressure being released. Not too much, but noticeable.

    Symptom #2

During the past 2 months the on-board computer has reported an Oil Pressure Sensor Failure twice. The error went away both times after I switched the car off and on so I didn't pay too much attention. Today, whilst driving I noticed that the oil pressure during acceleration was at "5" and during idle at 3.5. It seemed as if pressure was higher than normal. Then, after accelerating hard (maybe relevant?) I noticed the oil pressure was back to normal, with idle pressure at 2-2.1 and 4.5 whilst accelerating.

The two symptoms got me a little bit worried. Am I being paranoid?

  7. Latest news from Porsche Greece is that a new map is expected soon (both CD and DVD versions!) that will have much better coverage. I personally doubt they will produce a new CD version, but I will be very very happy if they do.

Michali , they told me that same thing 8 months ago and still nothing... I would be very surprised if the finally produced a CD version that includes Greece but i am no longer counting on that. My brother and i fitted an OEM Navigation unit on my brothers Golf GTi with an OEM European DVD that includes Greece but i have to say that has very small coverage... I think it will take years before we get a dissent map for this country...

If you are in Athens this weekend i will phone you to arrange a meeting!

    Nikos.

Niko, there are very good maps for Athens. My old BMW had excellent coverage for Athens and other major cities, and I know for a fact that handheld GPS devices also offer excellent maps. It it a matter of time before Porsche comes up with up-2-date maps, the only question is whether they will release them in CD or DVD-only.

(I will be in Athens, expecting your call :D )

    Hi

There is a cd version update already for PCM 2. A set of 5 cd replace the older 3 cd version, the installation cd is inclusive, but not always necessary. It depends on the PCM 2 specifications, an OPC is qualified to install.

    Regards

Which version are you referring to? I thought the latest CD maps for Europe are the 08/2005. Do you know of a later set?

    Thanks,

    Michael

  8. This is the second time I see this behaviour from my 03 996 and I am a bit worried it will get worse. The problem is that without any top activity (open or close) the top warning light comes as well as a warning saying the top is not in the closed position (or something similar). The top switch is not functioning (open or close) and if you do the mistake to lower the rear windows (which I did! <_< ) they don't come back up.

The solution so far has been to stop the car and use the key to remotely open the top. Then everything works again ... until the next time!

Any ideas what might be wrong? I suspect the sensor that detects the top position but I have no idea where it is located. Also, if this is the problem, shouldn't it block key operation as well?
