I am sure there is a decibel restriction, but it should be no problem in Greece. On the other hand, I like the ability to switch off the loud sound when I want to enjoy a quite drive with the top down.

The car has 1 year warranty in Europe so unfortunately I have to pay for the new muffler.

Hi all! I have 03 Cabrio with PSE. Unfortunately one of the mufflers is broken inside and makes a horrible sound. I had this fixed about 6 months ago, but now it is starting to make the same noise again so I am looking into a more final solution. Given this opportunity I would consider going for an aftermarket solution instead of buying a new PSE muffler from Porsche or Carnewal.

Ideally my goals for this "project" are:

1. Keep the PSE button working somehow

2. Have 997-look dual tips (instead of the PSE semi-dual tips) fitted somehow.

Any suggestions?

Hi! I need to replace the front brake pads and I was wondering what parts need replacing besides the pads? I guess I need a couple of sensors as well? Is there a part number for the whole kit?

I was looking at www.eurocarparts.com and they say I need 4 dampening plates as well. Is this right?

A friend is looking for a wooden (walnut) steering wheel for his Cayenne tiptronic. Is there a genuine part available? If not, anyone knows where he can find a good after-market item?

Just for the record let me say the cable-fix did not work! After about a week the noise came back, and when I removed the cable it was no longer round but completely flat. I am now trying a different material...

I added the outer shield of a power cable from my PC (!!) and it fixed the problem! Thanks for your help!

I noticed the rubber shield between the hard-top and the windshield was not pressed correctly (sorry I cannot describe it any better) at a specific point at the passenger side. I fixed it by pulling it out (so that it is the same across the windshield) but I haven't had a chance to test-drive it and see if it made any difference.

I was on the highway last night accelerating from 100km/h and when I reached 210km/h there was a sudden, very loud noise coming from the passenger side. For a brief moment I thought there was a bike next to me honking because it was overtaking me but then I realised my car was generating the noise!

I slowed down and the sound stopped. I accelerated back to 210 and the sound was there again. My guess is that it is somehow related to the hardtop being on the car since I haven't heard anything similar without the hardtop on.

Any ideas where to look? It is not very easy to replicate the sound so I cannot do this on trial and error (I will end up in jail!).

I am sorry to bring this topic up again, but I have the same noise coming from the driver side window. If you look at the attached picture:

The noise is coming from the point where the two arrows (A and B ) point. If I put my finger and push the rubber from the inside towards the window at point B it stops.

Now, I thought I should try the fix suggested in this thread but when I looked carefully I saw that my door seal already has a similar fix applied (previous owner?) but the foam rubber bit is inside the outer part of the seal (arrow A).

I am not sure, but I thought the correct way would be to insert the foam rubber bit in the inner part of the seal (arrow B ) - right?

Also, is the part marked "C" adjustable? Can I increase the angle with the door so that it pushes the seal more?

I read in a post here that a Porsche dealer can adjust your hardtop so that rattles and noises will be minimized. Does anyone have the instructions for doing this adjustments?

I'm in a bind as there is no one else I can take the car to while its under warranty.

Hi georgios! I am not sure what is the problem.. Do you think your clutch is too heavy? Have you had a chance to compare it with another 996?

I was trying to figure out why my hardtop makes an annoying noise when driving over bumpy roads when I read a TSB (1/05) that describes a new modified rear hardtop locking mechanism that fixes the noise problems.

My question is, whether Porsche should cover the expense or I have to pay for parts/labour for replacing the locking mechanism? I would like ot know what I should be expecting, before I talk to the local Porsche dealer.

I just ordered these. 75 Euro EACH! I guess I am paying for superior quality plastic

No, I have these. When the hardtop is on the car, there are plastic covers to hide the latches in the back - these are the ones I am missing. Sorry I have no photo but I can get one if it is needed.

The 996 Cabrio (MY03) I bought used came with a hard-top which I just realised is a different colour from the car! To be specific, the car is black metalic and the hard top is black non-metalic. I guess this is not normal, right? :oops:

The 996 is the first car I own without an LSD and even though its behavior on slippery Greek roads is excellent there are times that I feel an LSD would make it much more fun to drive. Does anyone have experience with an LSD from Quaiffe? I am interested in how the car behaves as well as how hard it was to install.

Can someone confirm then that the correct part number for a silver carrera logo that fits a MY03 911 is 996-559-237-10-4PU? It is the same for Cabrio and Coupe, right? Btw, are these expensive?

Ok, this might be a stupid idea, but perhaps you could use the original carpeting used for hiding the subwoofer in cars with the BOSE sound system. You can put the amp where the sub goes and it will all look absolutely original.

Unfortunately the noise comes from under the car, not under the dash. I suspect getting to the point that needs lubricating will need a lot of work ($$) which is why I am trying to figure out whether I have the noise because of something the dealer did wrong during the clutch installation, or whether the two are completely not-related (in which case I will have to pay for the work).
