  1. I bought a C2 99 out of warranty 2 years ago. Tried to get an aftermarket warranty from the Porsche dealer which was denied!!! So I did not pursue anything else. Spent 1500 bucks on a new water pump which blew out after 32K miles. Did the 30K service, have replaced the rear tires once ( now due to a replacement again). Have currently 44K miles on it , drive it daily. No problems ..so far... I have a heavy foot both on trottle and brake. I double clutch on any downshift. Have done a few Autocross events but no tracking but the car seems to be holding up well. Cheers HarryR
  2. You need to be realistic. 1/ Porsches are low(er) than normal cars but pretty well manage normal traffic situations. Procvided you do not lower them. Assume that Porsche figured out , after 20 years or so, that the ride hight is acceptable in almost all cases and that it also matches with the performance Porsche sought. Bottom line, you will need to be vigilant and you will figure out very quickly were ( in your neighborhood) you will need to pay attention. 2/ Establishing the price range ( limit) is like buying the house your REALLY want. You can not afford it, it's always "just a little bit above what you can afford" So be flexible, take your time and buy the best car within your means. Make as list of all the "must haves" , than the "Nice to haves" , remember that options will cost you a bundle if you install them afterwards. Then, look at the buying process as an expedition an challenge and have fun with it.! Think about is as getting a new girlfriend. You always can say no. Cheers

  4. RE: the PS2's = YES! I switched from non-N rated Pilot Sports and on a recent club drive, I noticed significant squirming. I was getting ready to take my car back to have the alignment checked (Euro 030 suspension) but maybe it's the tire pressure. I run 32 front and 36 rear. I ran the same pressures on the other Pilot Sports and got 33K miles on the rears so if these PS2's require much higher pressures, I hope it doesn't come at the expense of tire wear. I'll bump them up and see if the squishiness goes away. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jeff, I am getting 8K - 10K on my rear tires. Spirited driving but nevertheless that's what I am getting.   6. Anybody has the tools to measure the ACTUAL DB ( decibel ) at idle, 3K revs etc etc. that's most likely the only real measure to determine how much louder it really is istead of " I think it's about 60% louder than...". An additional 3 DB equals TWICE as loud as the previous measurement.
  7. Folks, I received the Vertex - Schnell air intake for my C2 . I installed it in 15 minutes( which also included the time it took to find a screw driver and reading the instructions). I will let you'all know what I think of it in a few days. I have a 200 miles trip tomorrow. HarryR
  8. Here is what I did. I just "rest" my Detector on the alarm flasher in the middle of the dash, that anchors the units nicely and I just string the cable to the cigarette lighter socket. I have the cordless Escort but I always use the cord because I believe it has more power that way. No messing with connecting and wiring cables etc and easy to take out and use in a different car. Note also that when I use the wind screen sun guard I just slide the detector out. HarryR - \C2 1999

  10. SPR, mine does the same ( C2 1999) and I have a new battery installed. That does not seem to be the issue. Car electrics is somewhat of an antiquated science for sure. In addition to this feature ( dimming immediately after start-up) I also notice that the charge , based on the position of the needle, seems to go down by at least 1 Volt when I have the airconditioner on. It goes down to about 12.5 volts where as I would assume 13.5 - 13.8 Volt is what it should be. It is almost as if the alternator can not supply sufficient voltage OR because the voltage regulator was designed and produced in 1942 by Mr Lucas himself. I am of course assuming that the voltage level shown on the gauge is measuring the voltage that is charging the battery. I would take that this is a correct assumption. However, I seem to get surprised over and over again. Maybe it showing the voltage to some other electric device hidden in the bowls of the car... who knows. Yes, who knows ??? HarryR
  11. Get the car with ALL the options you are looking for. Adding stuff to the Porsche is hellishly expensive. So maybe you should buy one with an Aero kit - factory ifr you are already looking at that upgrade / option There are lots of 996's on the market, take your time if you can. I took more than 6 months before I found what I was looking for. HarryR
  12. Build one, connect it to a GPS system that - in the future - gives you the posted speed limit and make it work and you will be a multi- millionnaire. HarryR

  16. I have a 99 C2 and after many years of Klasse I switched to Rejex. Here is my car after a free car wash by one of the local schools ( kids) and a 30 minute application of Rejex. Just applied ALL over the car including the glass, waited until it dried and wiped it off. Car has 42K miles and gets driven daily ( so I have some chippies on the front bumper) HarryR
  17. Yes, I think it could if the infant is big enough to sit upright , I would say if the child can sit in a normal infant seat this would work, it's not a replacement for a basinet type child seat. HarryR

  19. Here is a view of the bottom of the seat . Note the black knob. This allows you to "push" the seat into a more narrow width.
