  1. Driving on California's highways with my 1999 C2 which has the USA Sport suspension package seems to be the "hardest" suspension that would make sense on these roads. I do not think I would want to go for a stiffer suspension even if it would be for free, as in zero dollars. I also suspect that lowering the car will also increase the chance to hit the famous stops on the C2 and again, in my mind it would deter from the solid predictable ride my car currently has. Of course if you use your car on the track, that would be a total different requirement. I used to drive a Nissan 300Z TT and it was unbearable to drive it on the sport setting ( the car has a touring and sport setting activated / switched with a small knob in the cockpit) .

  2. You can also send a check for about 100 dollars to Porsche in Atlanta. They will cend you a certificate with all the official options your vehicle was delivered with as well as the MSRP when it would delivered to the dealer. There is a special customer service department responding to these questions and I received my certificate of authenticity in about 4 weeks. Very nice in embossed paper etc etc.

  3. It would be great if we could keep a thread around the treatment that owners got ...or did not get. I wonder if Porsche America would also honor a free repair for folks like myself who bought a 996 which was already out of warranty when it was purchased. In my case ( luckily NO drips at 30,000 miles) , I bough the car only earlier this year. It would be good to find out which Porsche dealers are treating their customers well too. And, in cases where owners contacted PCNA ,who did they get an acceptable response from. ie cutting through the red tape and getting to the guy or gal that make the decision or can make the decision without having to spin the wheels or doing a lot of Sherlock Holmes work to get to the decision maker(s).

    and they are comparing the USA versions ( standard and 030 option) to the ROW M030 options. Very interesting article,.

    Bottom line :American suspensions are softer and the car is up to 3 centimeter higher... It can be changed...it only takes money . Around 2K dollars

  5. The first 1999 US model 996's were really 1998's according to Porsche. Then there were "real" 1999's. This also coincides with the headlamp marker light change. Note though, that people change these all the time, so I wouldn't use that method of carbon dating.

    VIN's for the US cars were as follows:

    production year 1998: Coupe W 99XS6 20061>30000 Cabrio W 99WS6 50061>59999

    production year 1999: Coupe X 99XS6 20061>29999 Cabrio X 99XS6 50061>59999

  6. I just bought a nice C2 ( 1999) with 25K miles on the tach. It has lots of options and I am asking PCNA to send me the details of the options which they are going to do for 95 dollars plus shipping and handling in the next 6 weeks or so. In the meantime I would like to know what a Club Sports package is. Some say it's a sports suspension package other are saying it's a compbination of things including Sport seats ( which my car has). Does any body know what it really means? Also, I need an extra remote control key. My local dealership , Rector Motorcars in Burlingame , CA wants about 300 dollars or so ( $150 for the key and about $150 for the programming give or take $50.00). Any other ideas??
