I have updates 2-10 and 12-36, the manuals only cover 986 not 987.

I know I have many updates but will have to check and see how many.

Update; Drove over 500 miles this weekend and no codes, so plastic covered unit worked fine.

I was getting the P 0348 code, the check engine light would go on, then go out again, it did this several times, it seemed to go back on when revved around 4-6000 rpm. I replaced it with Bosch part number 0 232 103 092, it seems to be working fine, will have a 500 miles test this weekend.

It is a Bosch replacement, I don't have the number here at work.

P0348 Error code on Boxster S. 2003, 36,000 miles

On the old camshaft position sensor the round end of it was metal, the replacement is entirely covered with plastic. I understand that the it is and updated sensor, is this enclosed in plastic OK?

:drive: I do all my repairs and maintenance, and have been for many years.

I'm from the OLD school where you change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles, gradually I advanced to 5,000 miles using synthetic oil. The Boxster and BMW have oil change intervals of 12,000 to 15,000 miles. I have swithched to Amsoil 5w40 synthetic and will change oil at recommended intervals or once per year. I still change the oil filter every 5,000 miles.

There is a ton of information out there on all oils if one has the time and desire.

I haven't had any instances of rubbing, I'm running negative camber in front and rear.

I recently replaced the stock suspension on my new 2003 Boxster S with H&R springs and Bilstein sport shocks. I have seen no need to add spacers unless you do it for looks.

I don't believe they match as I noticed when assembling it the finishes were different.

I ordered the EAK, my dealer didn’t have it but was able to get it for me. I would have preferred the EWC.

I received two different part numbers for the 4 stalk assembly for the 2003 Boxster. They are 996 613 219 10 EWC and 996 613 219 00 EAK. Does anyone know the difference, the dealer couldn't help. The EWC number is more expensive than the EAK by about $18.00 - 20.00.

In an earlier post it was pointed out where to cut and where to grind to make your own short shifter. It appears that on the end of the Porsche and B&M shifter it is tapered and looks to have a groove cut in it. Does this need to be re-created after cutting it off.

OBC Update for

2003 Boxster S

I recently purchased a new Boxster S without the On Board Computer. I had assumed that all the information and thermometer were in the system but had no idea that it could be added so easily.

I’ve had 911’s for years but Boxster ownership was new to me. I started searching for Boxster forums, I’m a Rennlist member so was aware of that list but found many more sites that had lots of good information. I was interested when I found the OBC hack info. The Tool Man’s DVD video was good as was several other sites.

I had the dealer turn on the OBC before delivery. As written in all the information, the dealer will tell you he can’t turn it on for 2003 models or does not know how. Tool Man “Jeff” supplied me with a phone number for the technician and the technician was able to speak with someone who had turned on the OBC and could give detailed instructions.

I had several questions prior to attempting the update that were answered by Jeff. I ordered all the parts from the Porsche dealer including the five VW wires. I made the wiring harness prior to starting the update.

With all parts in hand I had no more excuses why I couldn’t start the project. I completed the project in one afternoon, it is a straight forward task and easy if one has had experience working on cars. Anyone with tools probably could do the update, just follow the steps outlined on the DVD or other sites that give good info.

Yes, after the update, everything works. I understand that the OBC on the 2003 will look like the output of a 2000 or 2001 model. I haven’t seen a 2003 with OBC so can’t describe the differences.

Took me awhile but I found your post on replacing spring/struts on the 996.

According to the service manual, to replace the springs/struts in front and rear the ball joints must be removed, also in the rear the axles need to be disconnected. I read a post somewhere, but with no details, stating that the the springs/struts can be replaced without splitting the ball joints or removing the axles.

Does anyone have experience with replacing Boxster S springs?
