Thank you for the reply. I never noticed it being harder or easier to start based on whether the engine was cold. How much was the total bill to put in the reconditioned starter?
Today I noticed that my odometer and stereo will stay on even after I take the key out of the ignition. Also, I can get in the car and turn on the stereo without even putting the key in. Is that a normal thing? I'm really hoping this is a symptom of the ignition switch.
Also, has anyone had any experience with the starter relay going bad? If so, can you please let me know how easy it is to replace? I saw it only costs about $15 to buy one.
Thanks, ~Chris

There are two pieces to the ignition switch the mechanical lock and electrical switch. Did they replace the mechanical portion and not the switch?
According to the receipt the dealer replaced the "electrical portion of ignition switch", and charged for part # NPN-4A0-905-8-49B for $30 which is the part I ordered again.

Hello, I am a new owner of a 2000 Boxster 2.7 and I cannot get the car to start now. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that there was often a delay in between turning the key and for the ignition to turn over and start. It has progressively become worse and now the car won't try to start at all. The ignition switch was replaced 3 months ago for the key getting stuck in the ignition. I have power to the stereo and other functions so I don't think it is the battery (this was also recently replaced). I tried jump starting the car and nothing happened.
From what I've read, I ordered another ignition switch but I'm not sure if these may be the symptoms of something else like the starter relay or starter itself? Can anyone tell me where the starter and solenoid is located and explain how I can test this? Anything else it might be?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance,
~Chris

I got the new ignition switch today. Installed it and the car started right up without problems. I hope this helps someone in the future. ~Chris
