  1. Hi I have an update I have started dis assembling the car to take the engine out and whilst disassembling the exhaust system i have noticed alot of oil it can practically be poured out of it does this help me lead to a diagnosis Ross
  2. Hi Hope you can help. I started a thread for this a couple of days ago but in the wrong place making it hard to find. I will start from the beginning my car is a 98 2.5 originally and has now been upgraded to a 2002 3.2S the engine came from ebay supposedly in full working order a wiring loom also from ebay alarm ecu and transponder also from ebay then odometer, abs, AC controller, seat belts, throttle pedal from local supplier after some slight modifications to engine loom (wires in wrong place or missing) the engine fired up and all codes were deleted now there is this rattle like a loose heat shield coming from the engine. all heat shields checked and fine it appears to be coming from left bank of engine. I have video'd it to try and capture the sound I am pretty sure the engine is going to have to come out but I would like your input to localize the problem Any pointers will help
  3. Does it sound like a clock ticking? follows engine revs? That could be a stuck lifter? Without hearing the exact noise it is difficult to even speculate. Can you capture the noise and youtube it or something? mike i can give it a go to get the sound clip on youtube the sound is not in time with engine revs and more of a rattle or grind
  4. Hi Im getting a nasty engine noise in my 3.2 Boxster 2002 manual. It appears to be coming from the left bank it sounds like a metal on metal sound like a loose heat shield. all shields checked though and are fine it is not in time with the engine and wil come and go or more like get louder and quieter there are no engine codes showing up. please help Alstarz88
  5. Yes i Did i have the car running now there seemed to be deviation between the engine wiring loom and the rest of the car. I had to re position some wires and add in 2 that were missing
  6. I have a wiring diagram for uk cars i have moved all the wires to mimic this diagram and added in 2 wires however the car no turns over but wont start. i had reordered the ignition wires. why would there be a difference and would it be to do with countries Regards Ross
  7. I also discovered that the ignition coil wires are in the wrong order the engine is defernitley out of a bxster as th exhaust manifolds are the right way round and i didn't have to change anything to get it to fit like other people who have put in 3.4+ engines so i can only summise that this engine is 7.8 dme does anyone have the wiring diagrams for this dme so i can compare Regards Ross
  8. Hi had a chance today to do some playing and with the aid of a wiring diagram for cu me 7.2 vehicle side have discovered that quite a few wires are missing which leads me to the conclusion that even though i thought the engine was a 2002 and wiring loom is 2002 they can not be from the same year and maybe the engine is not a boxster one. here are the wires i investigated b12 on dme og/rd not present b20 on dme ye/rd not present b23 on dme rd/bn not present b18 on dme wh/gn not present these all come from the white multiplug and on the car loom are there just not there in the engine loom. would the wiring loom colours changed from 2001 (this is the diagrams i have and seem to match colours of vehicle loom so far) on or does the 996 engines have different colours. thank you guys for your help so far
  9. it is re wired the car has full 2002 wiring loom, cluster, abs, HVAC etc the ecu is from a 2000 car same part number as 2002 hope that clears it up a bit
  10. Forgot to mention original car 2.5 boxster manual 98 uprated to 3.2S Boxster manual 2002
  11. Hi Let me explain where i am at i have just put a 3.2 S 2002 engine in my boxster which has also has a full wiring loom from a different car i also have changed the ECU (2000) Alarm and transponder from a 3rd location now i am experiencing issues starting. i have lights on the dash but it is acting like the immobiliser isn't releasing. I have done some diagnostic and this is what i have come accross from the dme relay the red/blue cable puts out an incredibly low voltage also the red brown cable from the relay seems to terminate at the white multiplug (i believe this cable is supposed to go to the dme but not sure and do not see why there should be a discrepancy between the 2 looms seeing as the both were 2002 the other option is that the dme and alarm either arent communicating or the transponder is incorrect thanks for any help you can offer Regards Ross
  12. my dme alarm box and transponder all came from the same car. im not convinced that the dme is getting power can someone tell me where the dme relay is so i can swap it and test also which one of the dme wires is the power so i can stick a multi meter on it
  13. can anyone tell me where the dme relay is i have recently upgraded my car to a 2002 3.2 engine the complete wiring loom and electrics have been swapped but the ecu alarm and transponder came from another car the alarm works with the key but am unbale to turn the car over all the lights on the instument cluster light up but it doesnt even try to crank Ross
  14. i have fully removed them but the rubber shield and guide tubes wont go past the gold tip which goes in the to the ebrake clamp i have ordered the guide tubes will post pics when they arrive
  15. i have attached a picture to help so you know what i am talking about the guide tube is 21 and the cable is 20
  16. Hi as the title suggests i am trying to replace the corroded and damaged guide tubes that go into the hub carriers i have removed them from the hub carrier but do not know how to remove from the handbrake cables they seem to be molded round the cables but are sold seperatley anyone got any ideas Regards Ross 98 boxster manual
  17. thank you for the information but what about the power difference
  18. Hi i am currently in the middle of an engine swap for a 2.5 to 3.2ltr engine the 3.2 is from a 2002 car and i have put a new 3.2 clutch however i am currently using my existing 5 speed box and am concerned about the 1mm or so play on the clutch to gearbox spindle. someone told me the spindle diameters were the same for both clutches but thought id check don't want to wreck anything anyone had experience in this? i see alot of people have done 3.4 ltr swaps what clutch do you use for that? Thanks for the help in advance Ross :renntech:
  19. the small pipe looks lke the one that actuates the butterfly in the pipe linking both inlet plenums
  20. Hi i have a 2.7 2002 wiring loom (not the engine loom) and cluster what else will i need to change to fit this also the engine is going to be upgraded to either twin turbos fitted to my current engine or a 3.4 engine i know this isn't an easy thing to do and i am not an average amatuer i have done a lot of conversions on other cars previously and currently I have the car in pieces respraying it i think the loom i acquired has PSM my current car has TC did 2002 cars have TC or only PSM Thanks in advance Ross
  21. Hi i have a 98 boxster 2.5 manual i have upgraded the front brakes to S and the rear calipers to S but can not put the S discs on the back due to being deeper is it just the hub that is different or is it the driveshafts hub and carrier that is different thanks for your help Ross
  22. Replaced AOS and filler pipe but looks like the main culprit for the problems was the oil pipe under the aos was in 2 pieces
