  1. this is a 2004 engine that had a IMS failure I replaced the IMS and other damaged bits but didn't replace the lifters or big end shell bearings as I didn't want to disassemble the crank carrier now I have removed the engine again I have decided to replace all lifters and all the shells as well as some other serviceable bits I didn't replace the first time.

  2. they said they had a porsche engine specialist in to pick up something. the reason they gave is that there is that slight gap that i took a photo of. they said that the rods are stretched because there is that gap and with cracked rods there would fit together with absolutely no gap

  3. Hi

I am currently rebuilding my engine after a couple of lifters colapsed. while the engine is out I have had it degreased and steam cleaned. whilst it was in the machine shop they informed me that the con rods were no good and will need replacing. Funnily enough they knew someone that had some for sale. I have taken a couple of pictures of the big end where they said the problem was. The bolts are hand tight and not to torque.

please let me know if these do need replacing.

The big end shell bearing were very worn.

    Thanks for your help

  4. Hi

My engine was working absolutely beautifully when it developed an intermittent knocking noise. i tracked it down to bank 1-3 I stripped it down in the car and located a colapsed lifter on the exhaust cam. I changed it out rebuilt the bank changed the oil filter and filled it up with 0-40 and 10% stabiliser started it up and it sounds like it has no oil in it anyone have an idea or where to start

    Cheers

  5. I am trying to fit an aftermarket stereo to my 2002 boxster which has a Bose amplifier and dsp but the information and ISP block I have bought say the wires for amp should be in the yellow block mine seem to be in the brown one

Anyone got any ideas as to what's going on here it just doesn't match up with any wiring diags I have. I have dash and door speakers and the wiring for rear speakers too

  6. Hi

I have recently replaced my abs pump during a 2 year project on my car during this time the rear Calipers we removed. I also changed the booster and master servo but the pedal feels very weird. At first it feels over boosted or like there is air in it then once the pedal has travelled through that it then feels like it isn't boosted at all.

The Car is standard ABS 4 Channel no TC or PSM/PASM.

When car isn't running pedal is solid as you would expect.

The Booster part numbers were the same

    Any ideas

  7. HI

I have a 98 Boxster running a 2004 Boxster S engine and 2002 electrics with DME 7.8. I have only just got everything connected up and test drove it yesterday. I have a few issues which i believe stem from one thing.

    ABS light on

    Brake warning Light on

    No speedo (not working)

Does the Boxster get its speed from the abs pump?

My Wiring loom is from a Boxster without PSM or TC (2002) the ABS pump that a breakers supplied for me is from a PSM car maybe later aswell but told me that it is compatible is this the issue. if so do you know the part number of the abs pump I need so I can get the correct one. Or could it be the cluster does DME 7.8 require a different instrument cluster

Thanks for all the help this forum has given me in this project

    Regards

  8. Stripped head down over the weekend (still in car) stripped out cams and valve buckets and the valve guide assembly bit so I could get a good look at valve springs

There was no broken springs also gave each valve a good push each one moved but had a good amount of force to move it.

The hydraulic valve tappet thingys were very stiff and couldn't be pushed in a local garage told me that this can be rectified by putting in a vice and squeeze them in (carefully) which I have done putting it all back together on my next day off but has anyone else got any ideas

  9. Hi

The on going saga continues with this car. the engine runs but only bank 1 or A depending on what you prefer. Only CELS i get are 300, 304, 305, 306 which are mulitple misfires, misfire 4, misfire 5, misfire 6 compression tested ok getting fuel as it drips out of header swapped coils with the other side no difference swapped cam adjust solenoid with other side no change. Has anyone got any ideas what could cause this and only affect one side

if I can fix this my 2 year project will almost be complete

Thanks for all the help so far

  10. Thanks for the speedy response

It also has run a couple of times with oil in it but It will backfire on application of throttle it back fires in the inlet manifold.

I don't have access to a leak down tester but compression tested it recently the engine had uniform compression of 200 across all pistons.

I will swap the coils to the other side see if that throws up different codes.

I was wondering if it could be anything to do with the variocam mine is a variable vain system i think as there is no chain other than the drive chain linking the cams

  11. *******Problem Solved******** (Almost)

I turns out that even though on inspection the cams were in correctly I accidently put 4-6 exhaust cam in 180 degrees out so looked right from end but not.

Now the car starts when there is no oil in it but wont with oil in it and I also get the following codes

    P0300

    P0304

    P0305

    P0306

which my basic code reader tells me are misfires on 4,5,6 and multiple misfires. anyone got any ideas what could cause this

  12. I have tested the CPS checks out ok.

Drained down and refilled with fresh fuel and engine flush in the fuel still no start trys to run but sounds like its only firing on 2 pistons

any ideas what to check next

    Regards

    Ross

I also done a compression test today all pistons 190 - 200 psi

tested spark plugs they are all firing well too

    any ideas

    Ross
