Have you had the IMS bearing replaced at all 101K could mean thats on the way out if it goes it is catastrophic so take it to dealers or specialists to be checked
Ross
also could be a stuck hydraulic lifter

Update
I stuck a multimeter on the ignition wires coming out of the dme and I am getting continous 12.4V before cranking is this correct?
what else can be tested
Cheers

No Ideas?
I have checked continuaty between all injectors and ignition powers and gounds and between black cables (i dont know what these do apart from connect all this equipment together) havent checked power readings from ecu. what power should I get from ignition wires and also what other wires should i check for an output.
Is it possible that the ecu is faulty. Does that happen
thanks for the help

To my knowledge it does fit and do you mean the alarm light on top of the dashboard?
that is a black plastic cover you pop off (carefully) then you will be able to lift the light up and disconnect the wire (keep hold of the wire or stick it to something cause it is hard to get back)

HI
Im from the uk so my car is the other way round but i believe that is where your air box is and at the bottom of the air box is a plastic bit that looks a little like that not sure what its for but it has a one way membrane that closes when the engine sucks so could be a drain
Have a look on ebay there is bound to be a picture of one out of a car or google it

Update
I have recieved a pdf for 7.2 to 7.8 from todd so have checked that over however apart from a few ancillary bits it was all correct.
Checked the spark. I have a strong spark on 1,2 weak spark on 3 no spark on 4 and weak on 5,6 I tested this by removing the coils and attaching spark testers with the coils out.
whilst i did this i had fuel drip from headers so i am positive their is fuel present
any ideas what could cause this
cheers
-
it is not the fuel as you can smell it. It was also leaking from the manifolds as it wasnt being ignited.
I have checked the timing and that the cams are the right way round thought i may have mixed them up at first.
I havent got a MAF connected at the moment.
Put new spark plugs in but made no difference.
It almost starts but wont run I will try and post a vid on tuesday
How can i test the spark conventional spark plug testers wont work due to plug deep in head
Cheers for the help

Any Ideas
I read on another post that airbags can stop the car running I also thought the could be a difference between clusters on the dme 7.2 and dme 7.8
thanks for the input
-
Agree. You need the immobilizer and the keyfob from the 7.8 DME car.
the ecu alarm and key fob all came from the same car If it was the alarm stopping it the engine wouldnt turn over and it does
Cheers

Hi
Alarm box is the one that goes with ECU. ECU alarm box and transponder all came from same vehicle cam sensor and crank sensor are different ends of the engine (if im looking at the right things)
cheers

Hi
I have done an engine swap on my boxster to a 3.2 engine and having trouble getting it to start. Originally I Purchased everything for the swap in 2002 spec i.e DME 7.2 Full Wiring loom cluster and abs pump. I had issues with the engine in respect of it not starting and after lots of issues I found out with the help of loren that my 2002 full working engine was actually a 2004 engine with an ims faliure. The engine has ben stripped and repaired and rebuilt. now with some slight wiring mods and a DME 7.8 the car turns over and gets to the point where it will fire but not go that extra bit. I have checked the timings and everything seems fine in that respect. has anyone got any ideas. think of it as a 2002 car with upgraded engine and ecu. also something else the interior is not in the car I read somewhere that airbags not being connected will stop the car starting I dont think its this as there is fuel and it is firing just not running

Found and set it up thanks
I'm hoping tholyoak can supply it for me but if not I will purchase it after I have fixed my engine
thanks for the help

Hi loren I cant find it on the uk or usa sites can you please post a link

ok looks I know what i need now does anyone have the wiring diagrams for a 2004 boxster
-
is that vario cam 2 then that might explain why it looks different
how does vario cam 2 work without the chain tensioning element
i have answered my own question with google. it is variocam plus does anyone have the wiring diagrams for a 2004 engine.

based in uk so ln engineering would be an expensive phone call any other sugestions
-
found the engine serial it was under grime
m96/2467405525
is there anywhere or one that can tell me what engine this is i.e year and capacity etc
Regards

I have removed the ims bearing cover and this is what i found
Nothing left of the bearing
my next question is with the ims bearing disintegrating like this is there likely to be dmage to other areas of the engine.
I bought this engine about 8 months ago off of ebay and can not contact the seller anymore account (withdrawn) but have some questions about the engine. it was listed as a boxster S 2002 engine but there is something odd about it like wiring differences which I had to change to get the engine to start. and the fact that it has a variocam setup i have not seen (if it is variocam) I looked for the engine serial number which seems to be blank. flat bit on one of the halves of the crank case.
here is a pic of where there variocam should be

how do you remove the bearing
Boxster not starting
in 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S)
Posted
Replaced the sensor and still wont start.
This car has had an engine transplant and the engine turned out to have a screwed ims so it has been replaced along with a seized oil pump and broken chain guide. the engine is a 2004 boxster S variocam NOT variocam+ car is a 98 boxster.
Parts replaced are as follows
full wiring loom 2002
Boxster S engine supposed to be 2002 turned out to be 2004
ABS pump module
Cluster 2002
fuel pump to a non return type(just encase the flow rates were different)
DME 7.8 and reprogrammed to boxster S for boxster 2.7
Alarm box and transponder from the same car as the DME
What its NOT
transponder alarm issues the engine turns over
fuel and spark have been checked and if i put my foot on the accelerator and pump it the engine trys to stay running
There is NO CEL or codes from a basic code reader
Engine had to be completely disassembled and re assembled to change IMS so anything goes really
Cams Checked for timing however there is a slim possibility they are on the wrong banks i'm sure that would give me a code though
Is compression a possibility.
This is a 2 year project that has finally came to an end the car has been fully re-sprayed in flip paint and will be 1 of a kind if I ever finish it before my wife makes me get rid of it( I am running out of time)
Please Help
