I'm wondering if it has to do with the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) since you normally need to configure any changes to the instrument cluster back with the ECU on most cars. I remember looking at what it takes to replace an instrument cluster on my Audi, but since it needs to be secure so you can't mess with the mileage, you needed to configure any new dash with the ECU.

I think the two black boxes in your photo are the central locking and control unit. The blue box could potentially be the immobilizer and alarm system. The blue box says "Alarmanlage" which is Alarm in English. Check page 387 of the diagram guide from Porsche here (https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf). 1: Depending on how old these sensors are, the plastic casing around the electrical conductive part could be old and cracked. This plastic housing is torn apart and the circuit is complete which throws on the brake replacement light. I know, per Porsche, they replace these when the brake service is completed. It would be easy to check if the housing is cracked when you have the wheel and caliper off. About a $10 part.

@Craig Joplin Are you saying that when the roof in it's fully retracted position, the windows are still lowered 4"? If this is the case, do you see the roof operation indicator light illuminated or not on the dash?
