  1. I just refilled my washer reservoir with the P21S booster solution. I understand that this is the factory fill. The recommended dilution for warm climates is 1-1.5 aliquots of the booster per 1.0 gallon of H2O. What are you guys in colder climates using for dilution (to prevent freezing)? I don't think the booster alone with H2O is enough to prevent freezing in colder climates. The reason I ask is that I have had some poor experiences with "off the shelf" windshield washer fluids with respect to paint damage and marring on other cars. The fluids have left spray streaks on my cars... so, I definitely wish to protect the p-car paint. The bottle also says that the booster can be added to conventional washer fluids. So, which paint-safe brands are you guys using? TIA :)
  2. ZX7R... Interesting info on the gel cells. Much appreciated. I haven't had any issues with my OEM battery. I think I'm going to stick with the dH2O. :)
  3. Is distilled water all I need? Just checking... Also, are any of you guys running gel batteries? I have tracked many times with the OEM battery without problems. What are the advantages of using a gel-based battery? TIA. :rolleyes:
  4. Mike, I bought some jack stands but never got the car up high enough to use them. I just slapped some good wheel chucks under the wheels and jacked up one side at a time. It worked great. Thanks for all the advice... :cheers:
  5. I'm with you, Loren on the Sport Designs, but I wanted that classic web look in a forged design. I thought about the Fikse FM10, but the starry center was a little too classic for me. The BBS LM is nice, but I like the reverse bolt pattern on the Profil 10. It's cleaner looking. They're a little shiny, but I didn't want to get "bare" wheels. This is apparently the least shiny protection finish that they offer.

I think the same capacity jack I bought was selling for $199.00 at the bottom of the page. The $149.00 jack must be lower capacity... if not, then I just lost out on $130! I was at CostCo and saw the jack. I knew they had been running anywhere from $250 to $550, so I just bought one. My next move was to search for that very site!
  7. Parker and ESK, I had paint to sample for MY02. It's actually an old Porsche color called Horizon Blue. I first saw it in California on a 968 cab. I have since seen it on some older 911s and a 993 cab. It was a nice compromise between silver and blue. Thanks for the :thumbup: .

Thanks to Loren, Mike in CA, Tool Pants, Orient Express, and others for all the advice on "getting jacked"! :huh: :lol: I bought the "PowerLift Hydraulics Aluminum Racing Jack" from CostCo for $279.00 (I understand that you can get it even cheaper online). The jack capacity is 3000 lbs and weighs in at 33 lbs. It's pretty compact with a very low profile and slides easily under the car. Regarding the rims, I went with Fikse Profil 10 3-piece forged wheels (offsets 44.45 mm front, 57 mm rear) with Race Satin Anodizing. The Fikse centercaps were standard, but I added a set of anodized Porsche crest caps (probably made by Ralph Boothe). This is apparently the least shiny "protected finish" that Fikse offers, and it requires the least amount of maintenance. I stuck with OEM tire sizing and slapped on some Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Positions (like I really needed to write out the entire tire name for you guys... hehehe). 225/40/18 F and 285/30/18 R. These tires are terrific. Although their turn in is not quite as sharp as my worn in Pirelli Rossos, the ride is quieter and more comfortable with equal dry traction and much better wet traction than the Rossos. It took about 3 track sessions to whoop 'em into shape. After they got sticky, the S03s had a real nice progressive break to them, although I have to admit that it took some time for the tires to gain my confidence.   10. Scott, sorry about the bad luck. :unsure: I'm no technician, but that whole adjustment deal was a little sketchy to me... I just couldn't see how the adjustments would be equal on both sides, whether it affected the alignment or not. I wonder if the track adjustments with different torque specs on the different bolts led to unequal stress on the shaft that broke during all your high speed driving. Especially around turns 11/12 at +100 mph. Drive safely, my friend. RRRRRROOOOOOWWWWW000003333300000 with your new tires! :thumbup:

  12. Nice discussion, guys... which brings me to my question. Is it really that imperative to change your brake fluid every 6 months? This whole brake failure thing has got me to thinking... hmmm... I've been to 4-5 DEs, all on the same brake fluid. I have had my car for 18 months. No brake failure issues at all. Am I lucky? Or am I due for a failure event???!!! :o
  13. Yeah, the wheels should be here for the next DE, but I'll probably still run my Carrera rims with the Rossos. I customized the offset on the Fikses and went with the Bridgestone S-03s. I need to find that jack...

  17. Gary, the Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico Rossos have an "asymmetric" tread design. They are not directional tires. They are designed to be mounted with the lettered sidewall always facing outward. It doesn't matter which side of the car they're on as long as the lettering is facing outward.
  18. I have some Fikses on the way and will need to swap them with my Carrera rims for track events. So, I need some suggestions on which floor jack to buy. I've done some searching, but there are so many jacks available that it's crazy! :eek: Low-profile is nice. Portability would be nice to take to the track eventually, but I really don't need that right now. Some of the jacks are megabucks. What jacks do you guys recommend? Also, the larger black style 996 jack pad is no longer available from Pelican Parts. They only offer the little yellow & white piece that's noted for the "Boxster". Will this little yellow piece work for the 996? Or are the jack undermount points different in shape between the 986 and 996? Cheers! :D

Is there really any advantage to the larger black jack pad that Mike posted earlier? I have some Fikse Profil 10s on the way with Bridgestone S-03 rubber. I was going to slap some Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on my Carrera 18s and use them as my track abuse set! :thumbup: I changed the offset about a 1/2 inch front/rear on the Fikses to give a slightly wider stance while still sticking with OEM size rubber. I wanted to be able to swap rubber back and forth between wheel sets, since I'll eventually track the Fikses. Plus, I'll always be able to find good quality tires in OEM sizes...
  20. Antonio, I track my cab (Euro M030) with 18" OEM Pirelli Rossos. Stock pressures of 36/44 (cold) are just simply too high. I have found that my car has nice grip, balance, and handling with hot pressures of 36/44. At rest, this translates into cold pressures of 32/39 for me. I know many people who run several psi lower in the rear (cold). You're going to love the 996's handling... once you master it! The US stock setup was plowing with too much body roll at the track... hence, the M030. It's a nice compromise for street/track use. Experiment with your tire pressures and see what you like... just be safe. :)
