  1. Loren could they be the drop links? I have read some post from others and said that cured their clunk noise going over bumps and up driveways. I checked everything you told me and they all seem fastened to me and nothing loose> any suggestions on how to check the droplinks and could this be the cause of my noise you think. what else can i check bedsides the drop link. Again my X74 was just installed this past March and have only put about 10K on it.
  2. Loren, would you happen to have any pictures or diagrams?
  3. Has anyone changed their transmission mounts on their 986 boxster? I am told mine are bad and causing a loud bang noise when shifting and dealer wants $1700 for labor alone. Any ideas would be great.
  4. thanks Loren I looked at the upper strut mount bolts and the look pretty secure, as for the front sway bar can you let me know what im suppose to look for?
  5. Can anyone tell where i should start looking for a clunk noise that is coming from my front suspension. I have the X74 spor suspension purchased from GERT on a 996 Targa and every time i go over a speed bump, up or down the driveway where there is a steep gradient i get a clunk noise coming from either the left side or right side fron suspension. I only have about 10,000 miles on it. Any suggestions would be great.
  6. Thanks, Loren I bought the car like that never new here was a hose. Does the other end connect to anything? After looking at the motor I can not see where the end would connect to.
  7. Hello , Loren The vent you are talking about does that mean some 996's 2002- have the power steering hose part number 996-314-545-00. I have looked at many pictures on line with 2002 coupes and Targas and can't find a 996 without the hose. Can you confirm as to why some have the hose and some have he caps?
  8. Does anyone know what the plastic cap that is located to the side of the power steering tank is for? I notice that the I am getting a lot of power steering fluid coming out of the small plastic tube hole that is to the right of the power steering filler cap. The black tiny cap seems to be coming off everytime I drive and leaving a streak of power steering fluid on the engine. I also noticed that some 996 Carrera's don't have a small cap to cover the whole that is there , but they have a rubber tube instead of the cap. Is there a reason for this? and what do I need to do? It looks like it just needs a new cap that is tight. Please help.
  9. Loren, I thought it was 96 foot pounds? Just like on all 996's and 997's that s what is says in the tech manual.
  10. I just found out that the fluid that is leaking under my turbo is coming from the water pump. Could this be causing the loud metallic can rumbling sound during idle and at 3000 rpm? Any instructions on changing the water pump for a 2003 996 turbo tip? Thanks
  11. I have a 03' Turbo with tip and it has under 40k miles. While I was driving i got a strange metal can ratting noise comingfrom the engine. I do not no where it was coming from. This noise happens randomly at idle and almost everytime when accelerating up to 3000rpm. The next day I noticed a ddecent size leak of fluid that kinda had a smell like coolant, but looked more watered down yellowish brown. Checked all fluids and everything was fine. I was thinking maybe it could be a catalytic converter or something to do with one of the pulleys or even a water pump. Any help would be great.
  12. Deepblue thanks! but when I pour the coolant in i can see it coming out on both sides of the engine with 2 seperate puddles! Also they are in the exact same area.
  13. 2003 Turbo coolant leaking in two spots, both from the left and right side of the eninige in front of the turbo drain plugs. Woke up and the coolant tank was empty, added 1 gallon of coolant and water and noticed large amounts of both water and coolant leaking from both sides of the engine and not the coolant tank itself. Could this be a water pump?
  14. Ptec, thanks! but when you mean top portion, is there also another pully that needs to be loosen? or it just item 17 with the 30mm socket? Thanks Again. Can the coolant hoses to the left and right of the radiator be removed to make more room to change the drive belt? I want to make sure coolant does not come pouring out.
  15. Does anyone know or happen to own a 40th anniversary coupe? I ask because I recently bought a set of polished wheels that came on the 996 40th coupe and have gotten some stains that do not go away after washing. I wanted to know what the best products are out there to maintain the polished wheel. Im affraid of using products that might further damage the finnish of the wheels.
  16. Ptec, thanks! but when you mean top portion, is there also another pully that needs to be loosen? or it just item 17 with the 30mm socket? Thanks Again.
  17. I have a 97 C2S and it hasen't been driven for more than a year. Changed the oil and put in 11quarts drove for about 30min and the oil level gauge reads empty. Could this be a glitch or does the car need to be driven more so everything breaks in again? Thanks all
  18. Anyone know which bolt holds the rear calipers on a 98 993 C2S?
  19. RMF, is #17 apart of 19? do you remove the black cap to find the hex bolt? I still finding it difficult as to which tensioner is the correct one and how to tackle it. Thanks
  20. Wvicary, what type of movement should i look for? How much movement should there to begin with? Do you know if there are any pics of drive belt replacement?
  21. Thanks RMF, but how is the belt removed compared to a 996? RMF, do you have a diagram? I do not know which one is the tensioner. DO happen to know if the bolt on the tensioner is a 24mm like on the 996? Thanks
  22. Thanks RMF, but how is the belt removed compared to a 996?
  23. Does anyone know if changing the drive belt is like a 996 Carrera? I have 66K on my S and want to know how to change it. I have checked most posting, but no details on hoe and if there is room to get to it. Thanks all
  24. RMF, took it to rusnak in pasadena and they said the problem is a " Valve Coil " and want $2800 parts and labor! is there DIY for this? and does the price seem steep?
