  1. Hi Everyone, I could your guidance on the proper VW wiring harness to use on my 2001 Boxster S. It currently has the Becker 220 radio/CD player. I'm looking to install the Alpine IDA-X001 head unit.

I've searched this forum and found a reference to a Crutchfield harness but when I checked for "things that fit my car" on their site it returned a different harness/part number. You can see it here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5fjAzE9gVIr/c...i=120701784#Tab

Any advice on which is best? Who am I to question the Crutchfield gods??

    Many thanks,

    -randy

I am installing a JVC KDAR870 headunit in my 2001 (w/ Hi Fi option) and after researching several boards, I bought a Metra 70-1787 off eBay for $14.99. It's my understanding this is the proper adapter if you have the factory amplifier option. If you do not have the factory amplifier, then you likely need a different adapter, maybe the one that Crutchfield identifies. Hope this helps.

    Steve

I have it from a very reliable source that the proper adapter is the PAC-OEM2 unit that also is available from Crutchfield.
  2. P0410 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 – Below Limit

P1411 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 – Below Limit

    Potential causes:

Secondary air injection pump does not function

    Air supply lines restricted

Electric change-over valve does not function

Air change-over valve does not function

    Vacuum system leaking

    Fault areas to check:

    − Wiring harness or fuse

    − Relay

    − DME control module

    − Air supply lines

    − Secondary air injection pump

    − Electric change-over valve

    − Air change-over valve

Loren, Thanks for the excellent info. I'm still wondering if this is covered by the 7 year/70,000 mile California extended emissions warranty.

  3. My '01 Boxster S with 40,000 miles is having the secondary air injection malady often mentioned in other posts. It lights up the CEL and shows the P0410 & P1411 DTCs. I looked in the warranty section of my manual and it lists a 7 year/70,000 mile California emissions warranty for listed parts. Unfortunately the secondary air injection components are not specifically listed. Hence my question: since this component is obviously a smog related item, is it covered by this warranty even though it is not on the list? I'd sure like some ammunition before I go nose-to-nose with the Porsche dealer!

  4. Thank you.

What is truly unusual is that the 0.280.218.055 part number from Bosch is reported to be the Bosch part number for both the 125.00 and the 125.00 Porsche parts.

Can this be? Can anyone confirm the 125.01 Bosch part number?

If anyone cares, I've posted my 8 page instructions on how to clean or replace a MAF ... kind of a "for dummies "version since I had never been inside the engine compartment before I did mine. Pictures, links, quotes from the repair manual, etc.

    http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/mikespor...boxsterwebpages

The Bosch part # 0 280 218 055 is the correct number for the Porsche 125.01. The newer 01 version replaced the earlier 00 but Bosch did not change the part number since the 00 version has been superceded.

  5. Here's what I know so far:

    996 606 123 00 - 2.5 sensor - $372 (Bosch PN B3130-70627)

    996 606 124 00 - 1st sensor for e-gas - $471 (Bosch PN B3130-128499)

    986 606 125 00 - new style sensor - $492 (Bosch PN B3130-149265)

    986 606 125 01 - new style sensor - (Bosch PN ?)

    Prices from Drivewire.

First off all of the supposed Bosch part numbers starting with the letter B are bogus...they are not Bosch part numbers. Secondly the 986.606.125.01 is the current sensor for 2.7 & 3.2 Boxster 986s and it crosses to the Bosch part number 0 280 218 055.
