  1. The '02 C2 came out of storage yesterday. It's been a mild winter in upsate NY and I'm anxious to get to my list of projects. Last year was my first with a Porsche and I really enjoyed it. The PO had done nearly everything it needed except the AO seperator and I took care of that. The first thing I'm doing is sending the steering wheel out for refurbishment. It's ugly and really let's an otherwise excellent interior down. The second thing is to take care of a rough idle. So, I'm looking for some advice. 20K ago new OEM coils and plugs were installed. I figured it could use a new fuel filter but but the canister style only goes up to MY 2001. Is it integral to the fuel pump? Could be a vacuum leak? Suggestions please. Thank you, RJ
  2. I was trying to get some input here and I thank you for yours. No, I really don't want it sitting on my dash considering my interior color is Savannah and it would stick out like a sore thumb. The consideration was born out of a hot summer day when I blew buy a trooper doing 90 and then realizing I was only doing 76 because I was looking at outside temperature and not speed. Last summer was the first with my 911 and the first with any car where the tach is the center gauge.
  3. Anyone have a Heads Up Display? I came across a video by this guy Flexx and he installed one by DMP Car Design. A nice, simple unit for around $50 shipped. Easy set up. Plugs into the OBDII port. It reads out a few parameters, but it would be nice just to have your speed right there in front of you. Making a list ofprojects for the Spring and trying to decide if this goes on it.
  4. My C2 has been put to bed for the winter and as I dream of projects for the coming Spring, refreshing the suspension is one of them. Can someone provide part numbers and/or a vendor for the Bilstein B8 with H@R springs some folks here seem to like? Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
  5. Thanks for all the replies. Out of all the many cars I've owned, the speed difference on this one is the biggest.
  6. I've verified this by 2 different methods and my speedometer reads 3-4 mph high. One possibility I've explored is the difference between 17" tires and 18" tires. I compared the two and at most, the difference is 1mph. Anyone have this issue? Is there a way to recalibrate the speedometer? '
  7. I bought my first 911 just this past June. I had a list of what I wanted- 996, exterior color, interior color, well maintained, IMS bearing replaced would be good, Cabrio. And I had a max price. Beyond that, if I found a C4, great. A turbo, excellent. It took me 3 months to find my 02 C2 with 80,000 miles on it. I absolutely love it. The only money I've spen on it was to replace the AOS. My advice is to make a list of what you have to have, then search. Get the things you really want and you won't be dissapointed. I also have mechanical skills and a friend with a lift in his garage at home. It's a good time when we get together to do some maintenance ( cleaning out the rediators when I first got it), so to me it brings down the cost of ownership. So, you're in good shape there. Best of luck.
  8. Thanks again. Unfortunately Wurth's doesn't make that exact can anymore. I'm sure it's been superceded over the years. Both of the links I provided say they match all German cars. I might have to take a leap of faith. Excellent write up.
  9. Loren- I found the paint- https://www.autopia-carcare.com/wus-892181.html#.XWs34ONKjIU Then I found this kit with everything I need for a good price. But the paint is different. Lacquer vs. enamel? https://www.autogeek.net/german-wheel-scuff-repair-kit.html Please advise. Thank you.
  10. I'm going to be fixing some minor scratches on my wheels that were there when I bought my car a couple of months ago. Will WURTH SILVER METALLIC paint be an exact match for my wheels? Please see attached pic. Thanks.
  11. I have the part in my hand, but if you have ever taken it out, you'll see that it doesn't give you the A02 or A05 designation on it.
  12. I need to order this part, but I'm not sure if mine is matte or gloss. Pelican Parts lists both, but their website has no pics. The center of the switch looks glossy, but the dial looks matte. So, can someone help me out? Which is right for my '02 C2? I did check Sunset and they listed a different part no. (996-613-115-10-A05) for my car.It says it's a potentiometer. There's no pic. The A05 tells me it's matte. They do have 996-613-127-10-A05. Price is now $81.29. Just would like to be sure. Thanks.
  13. Could I get a part number for the trim piece that looks like this one for the passenger side? It's the long triangular piece that's on the lower bumper just ahead of the front tire. Thank you.
  14. DBJoe- it's good advice and I'll do that before I spend any money. It's the anal retentive engineer in me that wants things to work correctly and right now.
  15. You can buy the sending unit for $250. Looks easy to install. Since I can do it myself, I might start there. Would the Durametric scan tool tell me if it's the sending unit? Might be worth buying one if it can. Good investment for the future too.
  16. Thanks JFP. Any idea what Porsche will charge me for this? An hour labor?
  17. I've had my '02 C2 for a week now and have been really enjoying it.This thing can really carve turns. It came with a full tank of gas and the gas gauge read correctly to nearly empty when I got the low fuel warning. I filled it up, but it only took 12 gallons. After filling, the gauge needle didn't move and the low fuel warning remained on. The next day, the gas gauge slowly crept to almost full(about 7/8). My initial reaction, for any car, is that it needs a new fuel gauge sending unit. But I did read on this forum about a recalibration process that has to be done at the dealer. Any help is always appreciated.
  18. It's done. Everything works and it sounds great. The only issue I'm having is that my phone won't stay paired. Pairs for about 5 seconds and then disconnects. I'll call Crutchfield tomorrow to see if they can help. Next up- see why my gas gauge is acting all goofy. The tank was full when In got it. Ran it down to almost empty so I filled it. Only took about 12 gallons. The gauge stayed near empty for a day. Then today, it slowly crept to near full. Should I replace the sending unit or is there some other issue that is inherent to these models? And... My airbag light is on.
  19. The yellow one? Yes. Connected wire for wire from Metra to all speakers on new deck. That will connect to the cars brown plug. Wire for wire from Metra to the new deck. That will go to the cars black plug. From new deck to red harness: blue/white to blue/ white. That will go to the cars yellow plug (red/black). Connected up everything and I have sound. Haven't heat shrunk the connections yet. That's as far as I got before I had to leave. Back now. How'd I do?
  20. Just getting to it this morning and I only have an hour before I have to go take care of something. Then back to it in a couple of hours. But, the 70-1787 harness has wires for front speakers only. What about the rears? I'm going to use the 70-1784 that came with my deck and wire up all speakers (although my 996 has front rear and dash) and use the red connector as you suggested.
  21. Hate to see you let it go. Good ones that haven't had the crap thrashed out of them are hard to find. But, I can understand after having my 996 for just a week. My daily driver is a Grand Cherokee. Bullet proof I6 engine, great in the snow. I'll let you know how it goes.
