  1. Listmates, I bought a used 911, and found it has a K40 installed. Nice install, but the detector doesn't seem to notice Ka band! I am going to the dealer tomorrow, but don't hold out much hope. I have an Escort 8500 x 50 which works great, and am planning to hardwire that in. Anyone have any nifty install that they have done? I hate to fall back on taking it out all the time, but without some sort of concealment, that is the plan. Thanks in advance.
  2. Listmates, I am looking at some carbon fiber parts for my 996. Prices from Porsche are exorbinant! I once bought an overlay set for a truck and some of the pieces fit and looked great, others were shabby. I don't intend to put junk in my Porsche, but I would like the carbon fiber look for under say, ten grand. Any one use those overlays that go on with 3 M tape, and if so, were they worth doing? Thanks in advance.
  3. I just bought a 911 from ebay. Went to my friends at the local dealership, and got some great advice: get the car checked out locally. Either have it taken to a local Porsche dealership for a check out, or use Magoos.net. magoos checked my car, and it was just as they said it was when i showed up to pick it up. On a side note, the two dealers here in St. Louis are both first rate, and I would think either would give you a straight answer on a car you are checking! Good luck.
  4. Once i recognized that it wasn't a Porsche part, i looked under and around and behind. I pulled it out again. Looks like a radar unit- K40 or somesuch. Thanks for the thoughts!
  5. Listmates, I have read the entire manual for my 2003 911 Cabriolet (thanks Loren for posting it) and I am baffled. There is a small double dial by the driver's right side floorwell. The outer dial has two positions, the inner, smaller one is an adjustable reostat sort of thing. And when i adjust the outer dial, five LEDs light up in the U shaped plastic around the steering wheel. Any ideas, or is this some sort of aftermarket gizmo that i need to decode? thanks.
  6. Anyone have a source for an owner's manual? I didn't get one with my new purchase. Thanks.
  7. As Monty Python would say, now for something completely different. In the shopping process, I wound up with a 2003 with 17K miles! So, the Boxster will be traded in Saturday in Chicago. Thanks for all your assistance.
  8. I don't know how big a deal egas is. The 99 is missing some of the luxury features, like heated and power seats, but those things don't make it go faster. Appreciate your input! Thanks.
  9. Listmates, I am in the process of trading my 00 Boxster S for a 911 Cabriolet. I have looked at several, and notice that a real engine change occurred in 2002 with the bigger engine. If I were looking at a 99 with 34K miles vs a 2000 or 01 with similar miles, is the newer car worth the additional 10K cost? Are there other features/factors I should consider? This is a toy, not a daily driver, so if the fun factor is the same, the car will suit me. Thanks in Advance.
  10. Listmates, Rhetorically (somewhat) I would like some input on the following. I have a Boxster S, and can trade it towards a 911 Cab for about three times the money as adding blowers or some other ridiculous horsepower creating upgrade to my Boxster. Which is the better use of the money? No review of the two has been very helpful so far, saying that past the label pinache and increased horsepower, they are about even. Which boggles me, since one costs about twice what the other does. Help? TIA.
  11. I traded in my BMW bike for my Boxster. The Harley folk were a mixed bag when it came to waving back at german riders- didn't know Porsche folk were supposed to wave! My apologies to those i have missed, and it won't happen again. :D
  12. I have a low mileage Boxster S, and as of today, the ignition won't turn off. The switch returns to the off position, but the lights and radio stay on. The key is hard to get back in, which makes me think my switch has given up the ghost. Is there an easy fix, or am i in for a new switch, and if so, is that a dealer replacement, or something a two star mechanic (out of five) like myself can do? Thanks in advance.
  13. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I bought smoked tail lights on ebay for my Black Boxster S, and they were well worth the money! I agree with the previous poster- they make it look much more aggressive! Do lose a bit of brightness, but not enough to get you rearended. I hope. Good luck!
  14. I have had my new (to me) boxster less than a month, and have already been elbow deep in the engine housing and stereo. Was thinking of changing out the factory "wing" next, with these aftermarket spoilers. I was wondering if they would do what they should for handling, however, since the factory model is solid, and these allow airflow underneath, rather than damming it and holding the rear end down. I am no engineer, so if anyone has any experience or thoughts, I thank you in advance!
  15. I replaced most of my stock speakers with MD Quarts and Alpines. The stock amp wouldn't drive them, so i put in six channels worth of Kicker Amps- one two and one four. Now the system has a horrible whine from the alternator, and i have to turn off the system when the headlights are on to get rid of the scream through the speakers. Today, we added a remote radar detector, and now the speakers scream with the headlights on, even if the stereo is turned off! I had to unplug the stereo to drive home. Any suggestions would be helpful. I took the stock amp inputs and ported them into a six channel RCA translator. The RCA plugs go to the amp inputs. I took the speaker outputs from the stock amp plug and attached them into the amp outputs. Good so far! There were two wires left in the stock amp output- one 12 v positive, and one which i couldn't figure out. Which might match up with the two wires on the input side of the factory amp I couldn't decipher. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
