  1. I've been using the LN adapter for almost 2 years...much better than stock/factory element which is mainly designed to meet environmental laws in Europe. The rec'd filters are Napa Gold, K&N, and Mobil 1 used on current model Corvettes, if I recall. The magnetic drain plug is a must also...very robust...first class products all around.

I see LN engineering has an oil filter adapter so you can run regular spin on oil filters on 987s.They say its a far better set up than factory as all the oil gets filtered and none gets bypassed. And you can choose a filter that is available at shops. Anyone?

I have one on my own car, as well as many customers running the LN unit, some for two years or more. It is well designed and performs excellently in both street and track applications.

  2. I would really like to make one of the WOCD sometime this decade, since I'm 0 for 4 presently. Why always schedule them when the local PCA has planned an annual tour (Mendocino)? This usually seems to be the case...sorry for the rant. Most of us would rather be driving the twisty roads on the North Coast,

than wrenching (think that's why we bought the car in the 1st place), but maybe one time check the calender of events?? Maybe plan a WOCD in January sometime?

  3. You mean that every bolt-on 'performance' item is not going to increase the horsepower 8-10%? Can this be true??

OK...the joke's over...FORMULA had to reveal the 'man behind the aftermarket/cheap/simple bolt-on hp curtain'. If you want your car to 'sound' faster and like wearing earplugs on the interstate, there's plenty of places to dump your $$$. Sometimes the truth cuts like a stiletto...

  4. Just as a follow up to 'researching' the build date of a vehicle...my door jamb identification plate sticker lists 05/05 as the build date.

Made a copy of the white tag with the VIN and engine number, and had our fine local dealer (Niello) look up the date of construction.

Turns out the 987 was made June 7, 2005, which was around the time of my guesstimate based on the engine number being approximately 150 units after the RMS switch in May 2005.

  5. Looked at the white tag that lists the VIN and option #s. Also has the engine # listed as M96-615 0870 1...so I'm probably into the new RMS production specification. If it blows...I'll report the failure.

A clutch & flywheel replaced at 26K miles...under warranty hopefully?

Thanks Loren for the info on engine numbers...and I lived in Roseville, CA once upon a time, before there was a 'Granite Bay' notation.

  6. Would there have been any notations as to VIN sequence when the 'new style' RMS was installed? Since the factory only dated the manufacture of the vehicle by month/year this might be a reasonable assumption? I'm not losing any sleep over the issue, but am just curious what side of the fence my 987 is on for future reference.

  7. Hi,

I have been searching all over the net on all sorts of porsche sites but i cant find any useful information. The 987 Boxster has been out since 05 and it has already been 2 years almost. My major concern like most who own and want to own a Boxster is its reliability. The major problem that plagued most 986 were the RMS problem. I would like to ask owners of the 987 Boxster to reply in this thread with their experience, especially if they have had RMS issues. Please reply with your YEAR, MODEL, AND ENGINE.

    Thankyou,

    Tony

'05 base 987 with 7K miles no leaks from RMS...half quart of oil in the first 2K miles...none since.

  8. Upon my 3rd visit to the dealer, they replaced the clutch servo spring which seems to fix the problem. The clutch pedal tension is now super smooth a much lighter than before. Before the clutch pedal had a stiffer tension.

My '05 base 987 5 speed developed this problem at about 4K miles...especially if the car had been driven hard for about an hour. The clutch effort became greater, and the 'stickiness' meant lots of creaking sounds. The dealer says the clutch master cylinder has to be replaced, and the repair is scheduled for mid-month. Looking forward to a lighter and smoother clutch...as it was in the first year.
