    The Kenwood unit may be the only one that fits, but I like the spec and looks of the Infinity unit better. If I could only find room for it... :(

    An in-line FM modulator gets around the problem of crowded FM spectrum by hard-wiring from the aux device output (headphone jack on an iPod) to the FM antenna. He's not talking about a short-range FM transmitter-type FM modulator. Here's an in-line FM modulator of the sort he's recommending. No, it isn't golden-ear audiophile approved. But it is likely to be an acceptable solution for many. Scosche FM-MOD01 Modulator - Play your iPod, satellite radio tuner, or other portable music player through any FM car stereo Has anyone installed the Scosche unit? It seems like the best method to connect an iPod. I'd like to know too! Also, what about te antenna, do we need the adpater as shown in the earlier post or are the connections on the Scosche compatible? Al

    Just as an FYI, I was in Walmart last night and saw a couple of different charger/maintainers for sale there made by a company called Schumacher. Anybody have any experiance with these? I read the specs and one of them mentioned specifically that the unit monitored for the correct voltage and then switched to 'float mode' and the current dropped down to 100ma. Sounded like a good unit for only $44 CDN. If they are in the US Walmarts they are probably even cheaper. Al

    Just my 2 cents but I would think that sticking with the dealer would be easiest and safest! Beside you appear to be in Miami and could get a resonable deal from SunCoast Porsche... they should have them. I was thinking of doing mine in the Boxster. Al

    Thank you. I am also considering to add a self dimming mirror. I recently purchased a new My06, it came with the wind stop and the self dimming mirrors, I highly recommend both options, although I think that the self dimming mirror will be an expensive one! I installed the wind deflector on my previous 986, not really hard at all, search this forum, there are some DIY instructions...

    So percymon, you say "no drilling, installed inside of enclosure" So did you power the ballast from the electrical leads that originally connected to the original halogen H7 bulb? Also (just to satisfy my curiousity) what temperature of bulb are you running and the year of your 987? Thanks, Al

    They are really going to charge that much ($500+) just to remove it? Assuming that they have to also program it into the car, what did that cost? I would consider buying one of these, but I didn't know that they cost so much to install?

    Rather then buying yet another battery charger (I have an automatic variable current monster, a 1A motorcycle unit and even a couple of solar trickle panels). Rather then buying the Porsche unit... Is there anything special about the Porsche branded units? Can I use the small motorcycle unit or a solar panel? I am going away for a week, do I even need to worry? Thanks

    Locally I cannot seem to find Ragg Topp or Bimini Topp for the Boxster's softtop, but what I did find was 303 High Tech Fabric Guard... recommended for 'canvas fabric' convertible tops amongst other outdoor fabrics. http://www.303products.com/tech/index.cfm?...p;feature_id=19 Anybody tried this? thanks

    That is a pretty cool add-on system, price is right too. But for me it was to have it integrated into the car's OBC.

    Assuming that option code 482 (TPMS) is what we are talking about... because I don't see it on my option list or in the OBC display. Could you add this after the fact? Wouldn't you have to remove the tires to install the remote sensors? If you add the sensors, can this be 'added' to the OBC?

    Westcoaster, I have the same car you have (987 boxster), and my HIDs are 35 watt, you dont have to worry a bit about damaging anything inside your headlight, HIDs run cooler than regular halogens. I see no downsides on having HIDs instead of halogens, only positive things. So, are you buying them? YEP! :cheers:

    So with the 2.7l Boxster now producing 245hp and the 3.4l in at 295hp... How long before we see a Boxster S firmly on the sunny side of 300hp, not just 5hp but maybe ringing is at 320hp? From 1997 at 215hp(?) to 295hp now, it has been a slow climb! Or are these kinds of power figures reserved for the more expensive Porsches? I am currently in a my06 at 240hp, I'm happy but maybe in about 3 years... B)

    I went to the dealer a couple of days ago and bought the clear side markers, in my haste to get home for lunch, I didn't check the numbers on the box. Well, they sold me the 997's, so I called and now the 987's are on order, sheesh and I gave them the correct number too!

    Thanks Loren, I just didn't want to use this information in appropriately. I was at the dealer at noon today and purchased some parts. The salesman that I dealt with when I bought the car told me if I need something to come and see him, I did and he got me the 'better price' which it seems is close to or exactly the MSRP as listed in the look-up. Although it is nice to get a deal on such things, I always thought that if the price of an item is known in advance and the buyer doesn't want to pay that sum, it is their choice. I guess that what I take away from this situation is that it is a little disappointing that the dealer tells me that I am getting the PCA club price or a 'deal' and it turns out that it is really no better then regular retail! Anyways, goes to show you that the deals offered by Sunset Porsche are very competitive if not downright excellent! Al

    This lookup function is very handy, nice to know what to expect as far as price goes... So is this information to be treated as confidential? My dealer quoted me a price on this part 999.571.074.30 that was above the MSRP as listed on the forum, their price $12.96, MSRP: $10.96... :angry: I would like to support my local dealer but don't like the idea of paying more then retail! Ideas?

    About the painted plug covering the tow hook hole on the 987 Boxster (possibly all are the same). How do you remove the plug safely without damaging the paint? Scary: paint+screwdriver+scratch?! I was hoping for a gentler method? Thanks

    Bill, I agree, that's why I started the DIY quest, actually picked up the aluminum yesterday. The bolt inquirery was the backup plan. About the Mustang, sound like you are a bit of a hot-rodder as well! Al

    You are right on that, I checked with a local fastener company, and they can get 14mm-1.5 bolts 150mm long for $7.00 (2 day delivery), might be the way to go and save the machine time for the 'other project' involving the tow hook mount... Still requires metric threads because I doubt that the tow hook would use something different. BTW, you've got me on what the zbar-pivot is? Al
