  1. When you get them let us know if the are factory or aftermarket parts.

    I see Boxster not Boxster S and I thought the 987 base car did not come with sill protectors. Suncoast ids them as 986, but it looks like the 987 protectors except it says Boxster and not Boxster S. Not up on the new cars so I don't know if the base 987 had a sill option and the sill said Boxster.

    I bought my Boxster new from the dealer, I have the window sticker as well, it doesn't mention anything about sill protetors either. These guys charge for everything so I doubt they were added after delivery for free.

    But I do have them, and they look identical to the picture on the SunCoast site.

  2. Thats the reason I never buy new. When I make a auto purchase it usually under a year old, with about 10000 miles. Its like new & still has that new car smell, with a great discount. Its nice to have a new car, but they lose value very fast.

    I think you can mitigate a lot of the first year deprecation by skillfully negotiating an equitable purchase price.

    I agree, I traded my 2003 Boxster and my 1991 RX7 on my 2006, they fought hard but in the end I think that the sale price on the 2006 ($10k off sticker), combined with getting exactly what I paid for the 2003 just a few months earlier and a reasonable amount for the RX7 (definitely a niche vehicle, as they had it on the lot for over a year before selling it) combined with the tax savings and I think I made out pretty darn good!

    Oh, did I mention that my 2003 needed brakes, tires, a clutch and had only 8 months left on the warranty? :P

    I too was disappointed to find out the retail price for these at my local Canadian dealer.

    I installed these door sills on my 986 last week and I ordered them from Suncoast. They came in factory porsche packaging and appears to be genuine. Suncoast provide an awesome service. B)

    Everything Porsche in Canada is 'stupid expensive', When my salesman offered to get me a deal on the euro-style clear side markers his 'don't tell anyone' price was about a dollar more per marker then the retail US price, Wow! what a deal! :huh:

    From the picture I could have sworn (but I didn't), that they were factory... Soopster, they (the Candian dealers) have seen us coming, appearently we are made of money!

    Heck most new Porsches are still $20-$30,000 more then the same model in the US, and they wonder why most people buy used from south of the border and bring them home.

    Well, I didn't order them, they came standard on my 987, in fact the picture in the link is from a 987. :thumbup:

    I like them, the look and finish is of course 'factory'... They do scuff up a bit when your shoe hits it either entering or exiting the car so I use 303 Protectant to keep them looking new and this also seems to make the scuffs easier to remove.

    It's either the factory units or the carbon fiber after market style...

    I recently acquired a '99 Boxster (and I love it!). My insurance company is asking me if the car has got any sort of factory parts marking?

    Anyone knows something about this issue?

    Jeep, I didn't know Porsche made one? :D (just kidding!)

    Anyway, I don't know about factory, but most dealers apply non-removable decals on all major body parts when the car hits their lot. Look around te car, they should be easy to spot...

  6. I'd love to toss a stebel nautilus into my car.

    If you try to set the alarm and a door is open, it normally barely pulses the horn. How's it sound with the stebel?

    I see that we have the same car, I will have to try the process you just described, but AFAIK the audible beep and alarm horn is separate from the horn activated by the button on the sterring wheel, there is a horn mounted to the driver's side of the battery under the plastic cowl.

    I had my clutch replaced 6 weeks ago at an independent shop owned by Marvin. Marvin use to work at 2 local dealerships before going independent. Marvin inspects the cars he works on. One of the things he checks out is the operation of the horn. He asked me why my horn was so loud....

    Good eye Tool Pants!, yes it is a Stobel Nautilus, and yes it is LOUD.

    Good thing too, I had to warn a young lady on the way to work today that cutting across 3 lanes to cut me off wasn't appreciated... I think she heard me! :D

  8. Well they are finally in, I must be a slow worker, either that or afraid to damage something because this sure took awhile!

    After removing both front wheels, the front inner wheel well liners, both side markers and the front bumper cover then I could start the task of installing the air horns. There is lots of room behind the impact beam, even found a threaded location to mount the bracket for the horn.

    Instead of cutting the original wires I used them to trigger a relay that supplied power directly from the battery. I know it may not have been necessary but other then the extra work of running the wires, it will make it easier to return the vehicle to stock.

    They sound is great, much louder then stock, really gets their attention now... (you know them, members of the anti-destination league about to cut you off or change lanes without looking! :o )

  9. How did the horns from Griot's tun out. I would love to hear them before going through the trouble of installing them and not liking them.

    ... besides I have to wrap my head around pulling off the front bumper cover! :huh:

    That was for me the toughest part! I reassembled it, but I guess I need to re-align the right wheel liner a little better, since I ended up with a small gap in the bottom part, which I don't remember being there! Other than that the bumper itself seems to be pretty aligned.

    BTW, I would definetly recommend jacking the car up and removing the front wheels (which I didnt do, but now recognize the mistake) - it will save you a lot of time when dealing with those IMAGINATIVE, CREATIVE, INVENTION OF THE CENTURY plastic rivets and will save your hands from scratches and the arms from bruises!

    for those ina similar predicament there are solutions int he form of additional wiring harnesses, or most likely in line resistors to fool the cars diagnostics.

    In the uk these people are about the best seller, they have fitted loads of kits themselves to all sorts of vehicles - a quick browse through the FAQ and customer reviews section should identify any issues you are likely to experience.

    Did you use their H7 Ultimate HID Xenon Conversion Kit for your 987? I'm looking for a Boxster at the moment; if I can cross factory xenons off the list of must have options then I think it'll be slightly easier to find what I want!

    OK, I saw the diagram of the parts from a PET image that was included in another thread, I saw that there are 'high' and 'low' note horns, makes sense that I would only need one set of connections.

    Does anybody know if these already go through a relay to supply power or if the receive power directly from the switch in the steering wheel?

    In the past I know that steering wheel switches tend to get burnt out from the higher current of the air horns so a relay would normally be required?

    Also, are the horns located ahead of the front wheels (behind the inner fender skirt)?

    Anyway could you please share the link to these diagrams?

    BTW... Which of the Griots Garage horns did you get? Are they dual-tone?

    What I was referring to was a drawing of the horns, no other information, I can't find the post now, but you wouldn't get much info from it.

    That is good news about not needing the relay, I figured that they may have used one for the factory horns. The unit in the picture look identical to the unit I have.

    Wow, so you removed the front bumper cover to install them(is that where the stock ones are?), I didn't think that I would have to go that far, clean and hidden but it must have taken a while to R&R the cover?

  14. Thanks, Richard. When you say it only wipes at the slower speed, does it do a few wipes at the regular speed and then pause for a bit or does it adjust the wipe interval to the amount of rain?

    It senses droplet movement across the sensor, so if it is very light rain it will wipe once and stop. As water builds up again it will wipe again and stop. In heavy rain it runs continuously. As I said, it does not change the wiper speed - it only wipes at the first (slower) speed setting, so you have to switch the stalk manually to the higher speed setting in torrential rain.

    It was the Tequipment part that I got, which came in a Xanonex box with a Porsche sticker on it.

    Hmmm, mine does not appear to work that way (factory installed my06), there is asensitivty adjustment on the stock, nad on the most sensitve mode they speed of the wiping definitly increses as more water hits the windshield.

    If it is pouring out, the wipers fly, working hard to keep up.
