  1. The problem with a "Manual" is that they are very subjective, I say tomato you say tomatoe.

    I have done many things described in a manual which left me in a quandary as to why I did it that way.

    I usually read about the part, learn where it is and have at it. I have done it this way for approximately 25 years, usually never had many problems; except for what was left out of the "Manual."

    A manual is like the being a doctor, they don't call it practice for nothing.

    I have been thinking of buying a 993 [997 look alike], does that code really mean you guy's need to tear down your top end.

    If you do not know much about Porsche's I think people can mistake the 997 for a 993.

    I have not seen one [997] yet, but the pictures make them look similar.

  4. Is it carbureted or injected.

    Sometimes there can be a leak from a carburetor which will run by an open valve and then by the rings into the crankcase.

    It's hard for me to remember that far back, but does it have a case mounted fuel pump [which runs off of a cam.]

    I have seen those do the same thing, the diaphragm will leak inside the pump leaking into the case.

  5. The reason you saw the lessened oil pressure is because your oil thinned. I don't know about you, but thin oil is not a good thing.

    I am sticking with thicker oil [boxster motor], oil is much more important to you then me, it play's a dual rule of lubrication and cooling.

    If there is no justification for using 0W oil I would avoid it. Maybe Loren can tell us why he believes it's better, or maybe his opinion.

  6. Try another dealer first.

    If they developed the system using maximum space allowed for on a CD when they sold it to you, it seems they never had any intention of supporting the Navigation system. Kind of a throw away item, seems to steep to throw away.

    I would say the dealership has no idea what they are talking about, or they just want to sell you the newest system.

    Your rich like the rest of us right!!!! :eek:

    It seems that there would be a patch available through whomever makes the NAV for Porsche. I would bypass the dealer [if you have no luck.]

    Go to whomever makes the Nav system and ask them.

    In the old day's we could use software patches to make the computer think it was a 32 bit system when it was not.

  7. The year is not indicative of the clear light vis-a-vis the amber imbedded light.

    If your light looks like the top one but with a little orange in it, You may have what they call clears.

    The best idea is to pop a light and get the Porsche number, unless you can compare your's to a litronic light [eye ball] or a for sure set of clears.

    I have seen a set of clears that looked like a stock [amber imbedded] light [could of been a bad picture, looked really close though].

  8. Carb spray, it would help to eliminate any possible leak. Raising the idle should not be necessary, it seems it was idling before and should settle on it's own.

    You don't have a low idle, you have a loping idle, you cannot adjust a loping idle, but you need to fix it.

    Just wait and get a few miles on it, hopefully it will correct itself, if not go to the carb spray.

  9. I have been looking at the LMS GT's [996 in wolf's clothing] with basically the same arrangement for cooling we have, but they have ducting which brings the air into the front radiators. The air then exits next to the radiator drawing hot air away from the radiator instead damming it up like we do [our system acts like a funnel.]

    I was thinking of drilling some holes :eek: in my front bumper and venting the hot air out through a vented hood facing away from the air travel [basically facing towards the back of the Boxster.]

    My belief is that at speed it will create a negative pressure venting the air out the vent.

    The reason I bring this up is, I do not think I have come up with a genuine idea and you have done this already. I also do not like to to see high temps [iMO]

    :welcome: some ideas or reason not to do it, beyond aesthetics. If there are any backyard engineers or people with ideas please chime it.

    I have spare bumper so it would be no loss for me to see.

  10. For a piece of mind:

    I would verify what I said was wrong, belt's and water pumps wear out, not alway's at the same time on all of our cars.

    I do not know anything about your Boxster i.e. mileage, age, condition. I would not end your Boxster ownership on a small problem.

    It is simple for you to check it out, and then seek advice. I have read to many horror stories about dealers.

    Be thankful you have a warranty, and get to know your Boxster by reading all of the problems and repairs encountered by the board members.

    If you walk into the dealership with knowledge of your vehicle, the dealer will not give you the story of your "Scheißekopf" being bad and you not being covered.
