Hi,
What do you guys think of my Low ride?
I bought this spare tire from a wrecker in Oklahoma. I have
been calling them for about three months looking for a
Porsche 996 spare wheel. I just got it last week and
I put it on to make sure it fits. Lets hope that
I never have to use it. I did not like the Idea of driving to a
time trial event without a spare. Yes it does fit in the front
trunk.

Hi Izzy,
The 996 instructions talk about running thru the gears
once you fill it up and then to retop the fluid. The instructions
says you need a lift to do this which I do not own. I would do it myself if it
was not for this item.

Hi,
Here is a picture of the step. I can not
find the size of screw 6 or 9.
Hope this works for you.

Hi,
Yes the manual says to change the fluid after
60,000 miles. It also says to change the oil every
30,000 miles. Well, I am on my secound oil change
and I change the oil every 10,000 miles. The old
oil is very black. I figure the transmission fluid is
some what dark. I plan to have the mechanic save a little bit so
I can see the color. I am still waiting for the parts but
when I get them, and I have the work done, I will post a picture of
the color of the fluid. I really like how this car runs and
I would like to make it run for some time. My last car ran for
230,000 miles but I did not race it like I race the Porsche.

HI,
HOW ABOUT 21K MILES, TWO TRACK EVENTS WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 90 DEGREES F.
I FEEL THAT I HAVE TORTURED THE FLUID BUT I COULD BE WRONG. THE NEXT EVENT
IS IN 23 DAYS AND I AM STILL WAITING ON THE FILTER THAT WILL SHIP FROM GERMANY.

Hi,
The car has 21,000 miles on it and I will
be taking it to the track in 23 days.

Hi Scott,
I am having a professional change the fluid. He told
me that it is alot like changing fluid in a Audi. I do
not have a lift to run the car on and add the fluid at
the same time.
Thank you for the friendly advice.

Hi Loren,
I was at a shop yesterday and they said they do not use the
Pennzoil Multi-vehicle ATF fluid. They also said that
replaceing the fluid is a lot like what they do on Audi's.
Do you have a ATF fluid to reccommend?

Hi Loren,
Thanks for the tip. I am glad that the rumor that
they crack often is over. I read alot and it is hard
to find the right information.

Hi Loren,
Thank you for the reply.

Hi,
The price of the pads is high, but the price
of the rotors is awesome. I read that the rotors
crack after about 20,000 miles. I guess that
would be 20,000 miles of track use only.

Hi Loren,
I just got my blue Pagrid bakes for the rears and
I put them up against the front brakes. The surface
area of the rears are smaller then the fronts. I have
not taken the rears off yet but was wondering if you know
if Porsche designs the brakes to be bigger for the fronts
compared with the rears.
I will find out this weekend when I do the work.
My car is a Porsche 2006 997 S.

Hi,
Even if you bought these brakes, you should look into the
price of the pads. I would start at $5,000 as a good guess
for a set of pads.

Hi Loren,
I just had the front wheels off and the lowest brake pad
size was .439". The numbers look good compared
to an original stock pad that I replaced that had a wear down
to a .260". I checked my pads pretty quickly but did not
notice the stock brake duct. I will keep looking for it. I wish
someone would design the GT-3 ducts with the
bottoms ground off.

Hi Loren,
I checked with Sunset Imports and they gave me a quote for $18.12
each for brake ducts for a 997 S. They think the ducts attach on the lower control
arm. They also told me that I should alredy have them on my car. Can you
give me a picture of what they are trying to sell me?
Thank you,
Paul

Hi Loren,
The more I look at them, the more I wonder how they
stay on. These things would shred on some of the driveways
I drive on. Do some guys grind the bottoms off
so that they can drive them on city streets? I will
take a closer look at the Porsche racing club cars
the next time I see them.

Hi Loren,
Awesome picture. I will vist this site again and do
some browsing. I am looking forward to meeting
with you at the next time trial event in February.
Thanks again.

Hi Loren,
Thank you for the reply. I tried looking thru the
997 PET book and could not find a picture
of the brake duct. I sure would like
to find a picture of this duct. Could you let me
know if there is a site that shows a picture.

Hi,
Loren says that there are brake cooling ducts for 997
and GT-3 cars. He says the GT-3 ducts are bigger. I
am thinking that 997 brake ducts would be a cool thing
to add.
Anybody done any shopping for brake ducts?

Hi,
I think you need to put the key in before you
disconnect the battery.
