  1. Hi,

While Time Trialing the car, you run your laps with the windows down. I

noticed the other day all the dust I have in the back of the car. I was wondering

if the dust would decrese if the roof hatch was open.

The question is, will the car be faster with the roof hatch open or close with all windows

open? I am sure that the Germans have done tests like this but us Americans

may not be able to get this information.

Logic would tell us that the car would be faster with the roof hatch close but

maybe the interior car pressure would improve with the roof hatch open. I will run

some racing laps in the future and will experiment with the roof hatch.

  2. Hi,

I have a tiptonic and I took it to the racetrack two weeks ago.

The tiptonic is a geat around car town. I tend to drive it a lot

like you would drive a motorcycle. Its like speed shifting at

    every light and stop sign.

  3. Hello everybody and compliments for the forum!

I'm new here and I hope thanks to your experience to find an answer to the following question about 997 which I don't own yet:

Does anybody know if the front part of the dashboard (I mean the one which embraces the instrument panel, central and side air vent) is a separate parte as it seems looking at it or it's a big whole part till the windscreen?

The aim of my question is to understand if it's possible to remove just this smaller part in order to cover it with an alcantara upholstery.

    Thanks in advance

    Fon

    Hi,

The dealer told me that there is a lot of work in removing the dials.

I also read a report that a guy had this done and then could not get

    rid of a rattle noise.

  4. I want to get this sorted out before I order parts, tools, etc., so a few questions:

Does the car need to be level to properly change the oil and filter, or can the rear end be up on low profile ramps with a 7 1/2" lift?

If it has to be level & I don't have a lift, is there enough room under the car to remove the drain plug & filter? (I'm doing this laying on my back under car.)

If it can be up on the low profile ramps, do you get complete drainage?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I did mine on my sloping driveway. The front was higher then the back and I am sure that I got all eight quarts out of it. I used two catch pans. I did not have to lift the car. The oil filter is close to the drain plug. The Porsche oil filter is a seperate filter. The filter will also need a new o-ring. Also get a new washer

for the drain plug. Add seven quarts and drive the car around the block. Then add oil as needed. Do not

    over fill the oil.

  5. The manual says "Remove the air cleaner housing".

    1. The 3.8 liter engine has a switch resonator installed in the air cleaner housing. In order to remove the air cleaner housing, the cable plug must be disconnected from the electric switch?over valve 1.

    2. Unclip the tandem pump vacuum line from the air cleaner housing.

Note - the rubber sleeves for securing the air cleaner housing

Disconnect plug connection on the hot film mass air flow meter 2. Press together the locking lever on the plug and pull the plug off the flange. Unclip the connection lead at the omega clips.

    3. a. Undo the threaded sleeve for the rubber moulding of the air cleaner housing from the throttle body 1

    b. Unclip the oil filling pipe from the air cleaner housing 3 and then lift the air cleaner housing out of the fastening lug 4.

    4. Unclip the switch?over valve for the switch resonator from the housing bracket 1 detach the vacuum line from the housing 2 and disconnect from the resonator.

Note - The air cleaner housing should not be cleaned on the outside with strong cleaning agents.

    5. Lift the air cleaner housing completely out of the engine compartment. If necessary, the outside of the housing can be cleaned using a damp cloth and some washing?up liquid. Then, lay the housing on a soft surface to avoid scratching the painted surface.

    "Then remove the 8 screws".

Install is in the reverse order.

If this works okay then let me know and we'll move this to the 997 DIY section.

    Thank's Loren!

    The directions were perfect,

I just took a bit of careful time figuring out the Disconnect plug connection on the hot film mass air flow meter..seems the locking lever is on the back side

I replaced the air filter and it took me about 45 minutes. I might have spent some time cleaning the parts once I had them out. I lost a rubber bushing that the air cleaner sits on but I found it the next day.
