Look at the schematic again - the plugs are labeled I/7 -- that means socket 1 pin 7. You will also see II/14 which means socket 2 pin 14.

You likely want the ones labeled as socket 1 (I/1 to 18).

Yes, I got it. Thank you so much.

One more thing, there is no starting number on any of the pins in the socket. Can you guess which is the number 1 and which is the number 18?

Huh... the wire color code is on each line shown here.

    i.e.  YEL/RE = Yellow with a red stripe

I don't have the jack going to the 18 pin socket so I don't know what color wire is to each pin. I am talking about the black socket on the right side of speaker/power socket. As I remember, that takes a pigtail jack which I don't have any more.

  3. Loren, I was able to get this diagram online but unfortunately I don't have the jack for this terminal with the wires to identify the pins according to the colors of wires.  The input jack has two rows of pins, 9 in each row(total of 18 pins). I was hopping some one could tell me what color wire is to each pin. I was able to buy the speaker side jack and not the input side jack with the wires.

  4. I inspected the ball joints. They wear tight and snug with no sign of wear after 120,000 miles. I removed the torne ball joint boots and carefully cleand them. I also cut and removed the clip that holds the lower end of the boot.

I was able to find some boots from a company called Energy Suspension in San Clemente, California. The Rack and Pinion outer ends took their Part# 9.13103G and the control arm's main took part # 9.13105G. They cost about $5.00 dollars for each pair and they are made of Polyruethane. I repacked the joints with lots of new grease and mounted the new boots.

I have to change the sway bar linkage boots too but, I have not found any that small. By the way, changing the shocks was a peice of cake and I am going to do the rear ones next weekend.

  5. Last weekend I got ready to change the front shocks on my 1999 C2, then I noticed that all the ball joint boots are cracked or damaged. I found out that you can not just replace the ball joints and it comes with the unit that it is attached to, like 928 Porsches. There is a kit for 928s that rebuilds and replaces the inside and the outside of the ball joint, but I could not find any kit for 996 porsches. Does any body have any sugestions besides changing those expensive parts ? I like to just clean and repack the ball joints but I need a set of new ball joint boots. Deos any body know where I can find different size boots ?

  6. I've finished at last! I have had a persistent wandering problem for months now, new dampers, track rods and sway bar tie rods. It still wandered, it just didn't feel right, any slight change in road surface would make it feel awful. It felt like a large weight shifting around at the rear.

I gave up after changing things and decided to strip the suspension off each corner until I found something, I just knew something was loose but I couldn't find anything and neither could three seperate dealers who I used for checking alignment after each part replacement.

Tonight I have just done the last corner (why is it always the last one!) you couldn't feel any movement anywhere, i'd levered and pulled but it felt rock solid. Istripped the coil and damper out and felt some movement as soon as this was out.

I tracked this to the rear link where it joined the body, at the rear camber adjuster.

The bolts were tight but it still shifted, I removed the bolt and cleaned it, put it back together and it was fine!

All this effort for a loose bolt, that said you'd never be able to find it without pulling the suspension apart!

I guess this post is a cautionary one, don't overlook the simple things!

I seem to have the same problem. Can you explaine a little bit more about what camber adjustment bolt you are refering to(with more details)? And, why was the bolt loose ? Was it loose due to any previous repair job ? Thanks for your help.
