  1. so the starter will continue to crank the engine for six seconds and then shut off if it doesnt receive the signal. the whole time the engine is trying to start. does that mean the engine will not start as well because of no signal? what is the signal from and is it a hassle to fix.
  2. i take it nobody has any idea why my starter keeps running after engine starts up. wonderful...
  3. My 2004 Cayenne S starter will not stop cranking engine. at first it was random. then it started doing it more and more. every now and then it would start up and run bad. i would have to sit and let it run like it was cold and needed to warm up. i live in arizona where its always warm, so that was ridiculous. after a few minutes it the idle would correct itself. the more the starter wouldnt stop cranking the more it ran bad on start up. i thought the starter was going bad so i replaced it. that didnt work either. brand new starter and it still wont stop cranking engine. i know that the power is diverted to the starter to start car and once it starter the relay shuts of the power to starter and it goes back to the everything else. i replaced the starter relay as well. i have repaired the wiring under drivers floor as well thinking that was the problem. i did the "reset" on the steering lock as well. checked all the fuses. replaced the relay for ECU. ignition switch is working. battery is new and fully charged. no codes to go off of. what is it that i am missing. the engine will start up and the starter will keep cranking. its a pain to remove everything to change the starter. its going to ruin something if i cant stop it from doing that.
  4. hello i am yet another who is disgusted with porsche for this engineering master piece. My Cayenne problem goes a little deeper. a week ago there was extreme thunderstorm that flooded Phoenix, Arizona. it rained all day producing several inches of water multiple times through out the day. anyway the rain managed to get into the wiring harness on the drivers side in front of the windshield and run down through the flex tube where the wires are housed. the water found the wiring that porsche chose to piece together using electrical tape. causing it to corrode. i also noticed that there was water puddled up on the floor mat as if it had drained down through the dash directly under the steering column where the steering lock lives. when i received the steering faulty message i wasnt sure what was going on, not until i read everyone's post. i had to disconnect the battery because the alarm system would not recognize the key and shut off. disconnecting the battery did not help me as it did not reset the lock. i tried connecting to the ecu to diagnose the situation in the beginning, after almost 30 minutes of waiting the the scanner said there was no electrical components installed, there were no fault codes, and eventually it said that there was no ecu as well. all of this because Porsche chose to cut corners and use cheap materials something that goes against the very essence of the name Porsche. i chose to buy this car because i thought i was buying high quality. i still love my car. i will try the trick with the brake, wish me luck.
  5. ok i am in the process of repairing/upgrading my valve body. im down to 1 last valve and the upgrade part goes in all the way but then gets tight at the very end and when i push it in to set retainer it wont spring back. very carefully i removed the valve and made sure it wasnt bad in some way. checked the cylinder for burrs or anything. looks great. still wont go in and not be tight. do i go buy a cylinder hone to increase the cylinder id enough to get the new valve set? in the process of doing so i had an issue with a few bees that wanted the transmission fluid and when i moved away i moved the tray where the rest of the caps and springs and everything else that went back into the upper valve body moved and everything is all mixed up including the 3 balls for the check valves. i have a diagram for the locations of the parts but trying to determine which goes where by the measurements labeled on diagram dont match up or i am clearly reading them wrong. i dont want to put the wrong parts in wrong port. how do i determine which one goes where.
