  1. Last night at a local mall in Miami someone decided to take as a souvenir my two front headlights. Is this a common item stolen from a 99 C2. Is there anything I can do when new lights are installed to make it harder to steal.

It seems very easy and quick, the bad side is they damaged both front fenders.

    Anyone with comments.

That sucks. Maybe replace them with the regular headlights rather than litronic?

  2. A very competent mechanic suggested running a slightly thicker oil and an oil that has less "froth" to it in place of the recommended 0w-40, which I tried.
0W-40 is the only weight "approved by Porsche" for use in these cars. What weight were you running?

Yup, I know 0w-40 is the only weight approved, however, my car is noisey with 0w-40. With 15w-50, the car runs much quieter and the oil pressure is better. At idle with 0w-40, the oil pressure drops to around .5 and "ticks".

Now that the outside temperature is not 100 degrees everyday, I'll switch back to 0w-40 and see what happens.

btw, many of the mechanics I talked with mentioned that these cars will be noisey (lifters) if the oil type is not correct which is why I mentioned my problem for the original post. Something else to check.

  3. My "ticking" was at idle and disappeared the moment the rpm's increased. I would only hear it after the car warmed up (I guess the oil was thinning out). Several mechanics believed it was a noisey lifter. A very competent mechanic suggested running a slightly thicker oil and an oil that has less "froth" to it in place of the recommended 0w-40, which I tried. The oil pressure is now slightly higer than before (at idle) and I no longer hear the ticking noise :)

  4. Hi,

Just bought a 1999 966 C2, love the forum and have a couple of newby questions.

What's the concensus re:cold air intake vs. K&N Filtercharger?

I assume the rubber boot around the rear deck fin that raises and lowers should be intact. Mine has a split in it aft of the electric cooling fan. (the car lived in the desert) Is it a DIY R&R?

    Thanks,

    John

Mine has a split also. I haven't found a replacement yet and hate to go the the dealer for something I can probably do myself.
