  1. but w/ the 996 it looks like no need to remove the caliper for pad removal?

    i've always just removed the caliper then tackled the brake pads. i'm in no rush and it allows you to do a full detail job on the caliper while it's out. just have some small caliber tubing available so you can put it on the end of the brake line and then you can clamp the tubing an inch or so away from the brake line - helps prevent losing all that brake fluid and making a mess

    just bought another 996 that has the GT3 package already on it but the sideskirts son't seem to fit flush in a couple of places due to sparing use of tape by the installer. so i'm going to reinstall them myself but don't have the instructions - you think you could make a copy of them and fax them to my home? shoot me a PM if that's cool and I'll give you my number

    i'm hoping they say something about the adhesive tape pasrt number as Sunset Posrche Parts has located several different adhesive tapes varying in price from $50 to $215 so I' dlike to buy the right on the first time

  3. great find! i've bought the other aluminum type gauge rings for my last 3 996's and each time shook my head in disbelief of the $140 price tag. i don't think even makes aluminum gauge rings?? right? but these companies are trying to fit in with porsche and charge outlandish prices just because it's a Porsche.

    out of curiousity, how are these in comparison to the $140 variant? do these fit well and don't have any straggling pieces of plastic where the cut was not good? and go on with epoxy resin?

    i need to buy some rings for my dad's new ride - fathers day gift that he has deserved for the last 30+ yrs :D

  4. Gary Almond just dropped off my "new" car for my wife (2003 GR/SB) tiptronic but has the GT3 aerokit package. Only problem is that the skirts do not seem to be seated flush against the car. You can drop a credita card or two down the crease between the top of the skirt and the body panel of the car. Now the skirts can easily be pushed to the proper position and sit flush with the car but they just don't hold the position.

    Adter reading the TSB, I'm geeing the body shop who did the installation in FL either forgot ot use the double-sided epoxy tape or used none at all. Any ideas on where I can get this so I can take care of this issue by myself or is there more than meets the eye and let a "pro"handle it?

  5. I'm doing some preventive maintenance on a newly purchased car for my wife. Pre-purchase inspection indicates the pads are about 50% worn and the rotors have some "grooving" but the note siad it's consistent with the mileage and year - 2003 with 19K miles.

    So I'm putting on new red calipers and going ahead and changing the brake pads while I'm at it. Should I change the rotors as well since I'm there or is minor grooving not that big of an issue?

  6. I'm about to install a garage door switch/hack into the ashtray piece and looking for a power supply to tap into just so the switch would light up when i have my lights on. I found a light blue wire and brown wire just sitting underneath the ashtray(or what used to be - replaced with non-smoker's package). Wondering if anybody knows what these are and if i can use them for my purpose or i should just tap into another switch.

    The window control switches i was going to tap into....well i'm having a tough time figuring out which wires to tap. The ones that physically correspond in location, one of the switches has two brown wires coming out of the same end and one blue on the other while the other switch has one brown wire coming out of the end and two blues on teh other end.

    sorry if this is confusing(haven't set up camera yet) and thanks for any guidance!

    EDIT - i just shoved bare ends of my new switch wire into the contact point of another switch so i could test it and still be reversible and everything worked so i'm going to leave it as is

  8. Currently have a rear decklid with the fixed carrera spoiler from my 2003 996 that i am selling as I replaced it with the GT3 rear decklid & wing. One of the interested parties has a '99 996 but has been told that my rear decklid will not fit his car as their are "fitment issues"?

    Is this true? I was pretty sure that all narrow body 996's shared the same decklid, albeit probably different part #'s?

    What are you asking for the it, I may be interested if your buyer is worried about fitment and does not want it.

  10. Here's the story - '05 Cayenne S involved in front end collision that was not that bad as only the bumper needed to be replaced along with some hoses that were immediately behind the bumper. Fenders and hood were untouched but unfortunately the airbags went off so that created prolonged period at the body shop/dealer. It's now been 11 weeks and still no car - don't get me started!

    Anyway, while at the dealer to reset the airbag lights/activation switch, the tech noticed that he could not communicate with the PSM. He tried to reset it but could not even communicate with it at all. The bodyshop did not receive authorization from the insurance company for this workup so the dealer sent it back to the bodyshop and suggested correcting the toe angle and then maybe the PSM would be able to communicate with the DME. However, insurance company is balking at the allignment costs so I just told the dealer that I would go ahead and pay for this as it needs it anyway.

    So - anybody have any ideas of why the PSM is not communicating at all with the DME. THE DSM here in Atlanta said that, even with a bad toe angle, the PSM should still be able to communicate but just not be able to calibrate. And yes, the yellow inertia switch has been pushed.

  11. Loren - hate to bother you with such an esay question but I've never been able to "visualize" the meaning/value of offsets and wheelsize:

    but now i'm contmeplating getting some 19" wheels for my car (2003 996 coupe). The ones I like are fronts 8Jx19 ET57 and rears 11Jx19 ET67. I have 7mm front spacers and 15mm rear spacers on my car now so I can keep these on(or remove them) if these will help in fitment of the wheels on my car.

    So will these wheels work on my car????
