  1. What does it mean when all the sports suspension kits come with firmer suspension - in particular the shorter/stiffer springs and firmer dampers? Does damper mean shock absorber? If a shock absorber is firmer, does it mean it doesn't absorb shock as well as a softer one? So if I hit a bump, instead of the wheels move up and the car body stay level, the whole car moves up and jumps to air, this is meant to be good for roadholding/handling? Alternatively, what happens when I hit a ditch? Stiffer spring would push the wheels down faster and therefore allow better roadholding? Is that it? Or is it all about cornering? Stiffer everything so the car doesn't roll sideways? I have found sideways roll to be a good indication of how far the car is being pushed, with the roll eliminated, doesn't it mean that there will no longer be an indication between flat cornering and when the car starts to loose grip when cornering hard so the car becomes unpredicatable?
  2. Cheers! Stock plugs it is then. Thx, TP.
  3. Thanks for the reply LVDell. Almost got ripped off by the dealers again... they are running this "deal" as a limited special..
  4. Hmm.... the Iridium plugs have even thinner tips than the Platinums. If the Platinum's tip can break-off.... hmm.... maybe I should just stick to the factory options. TP, what is the exact Bosche part number you use for the heat rating 7 two-electrode plugs?
  5. Porsche Centre Melbourne is selling the Tequipment Sport Suspension package that includes the shorter/stiffer springs, thicker roll bars and firmer dampers (=shock absorber?) for AUD$2990 installed (around US$2000). Is this the same as the ROW M030 option people talk about? I have a stock 97 model. Is it worth the upgrade?
  6. Thanks for your instructions guys. But I was more after whether anyone has any first/secondhand experience whether the Iridiums or Platinums increase performance/driveability?
  7. What are people's opinions on the Iridium spark plugs for the Boxster? Or what would you recommend instead? Platinum? Bosche Super 4?
  8. My 97 Tip has just reached 120kkm and is in need for a major service. I was just wondering who here does the major service DIY? Or do we all get it done in a workshop? And if so, what is a ballpark price so I don't get ripped off when I go to a workshop? Solid items like changing the oil and spark plugs should be fairly easily done DIY. I do these things myself for my other car (Mazda). But the less "tangible" items like "visual inpection of....." or "checking of ....." listed in the major service table seem like they either require expertly trained eyes, or are simply easy money wishy wushy eye-ball jobs for the mechanic. What do you think? Also, I think my car missed the 80kkm automatic transmission service including final drive. I have read somewhere previously that if an early transmission drainage is not done, it shouldn't be done at all. Which goes against my instincts. Is this true?
  9. I have come across a few websites that describes this already. But this is the best one: http://www.trentcarter.com/3.4Boxster.asp It's under the "Dual-stage resonance intake" section. Stating that all Porsche's from 2000 have it. Mine is 1997.
  10. I've read that the power/torque increase in the 2.7L is partially due to the new air intake design. Is it possible to transplant this intake system onto a 2.5L?
  11. What does the Porsche rotating low beam feature actually do? Is it the dipping of the beam when accelerating? Or is it like the BMW lights, they actually rotate sideways when cornering.
  12. My crash repair and respray is complete, with custom extreme silver mix. Feel free to provide comments ppl. :) Before the accident: Accident: Now: For more pics, please visit my garage: 1997 Boxster extreme silver
  13. TP: Thx for the pic. I will give this a try when I get my Boxster back from the workshop. Dannov: I've been thinking about it for a while.... travelling at 100k/h the wind is certainly pretty ghastly. My girlfriend has kindly requested a windstop. :) Maybe I will just stick a piece of card board in between the roll bars to test it out first.... Porsche Australia wants ~$800AUD for the windstop set.
  14. That's cool, TP, thanks for the confirmation. Guess what? I should've figured, given it was so difficult to get the paint code - no workshop has this paint code on their system and so nobody can mix this paint for me, not even the Porsche authorised shops..... geez.......
  15. Hmm.... that's possible. The paint code for Sports Silver is M7Z (as read to me by the paint company girl that manufatures OEM Porsche paint). I suppose Z and 2 is close enough..... Anyway, for those interested, "Sports Silver" M7Z 's code is PROFI MA352.40...... if that makes any sense to anyone.
  16. I am respraying my Boxster in GT Silver metallic. I've rung various Porsche Centres and authorised paintshops but nobody has even heard of this colour. Does someone know what is the paint mix code for it? Thanks. Cheers, Jin p.s: Is it possible that this paint also comes under the name Sports Silver? The paintshop said there is a sports silver for Porsche 2003-2005 models... I am not sure if that's just their generic name or the same GT metallic in a less propaganderous name.
  17. My painter has shown me a few different coats of pearl that can go on top of the artic silver base - including Boxster Red/Blue/Yellow tinges. The Boxster Red pearl coat looks kind of nice. I was wondering if anyone has a picture of a Meridian Boxster possibly with a red interior? I have searched Yoseif's and others, but found no good result.
  18. I am thinking about building my own Windstop (centre piece) out of Lexan or automotive glass. I was just wondering how it actually clips onto the rollbar. Anyone has a up close photo? Cheers Jin
  19. The top is black. I have decided to stick with Arctic Silver since no other colour complements the red interior better... Also got a 996 front bar as well. Will post pics when done. BTW: love the Techart kit and those wheels.... anyone know where I can get cheap Techart parts please let me know. :) I asked them about their widebody kit for the boxster and they wanted ~ $13000AUD for the kit shipped... ouch. :)
  20. Thanks a lot Graeme. Alleviated my concerns beautifully. :)
  21. Thanks Toolpants. I suspected this might be the case. Loren on the 996 forum confirmed this too. I would prefer to use the 996 Tip style bar with the extra central opening on my Boxster just so that I can add an extra radiator (or intercooler) later on when I start to mod my Boxster. I am just concerned whether the Tip style bar would mate up well to my Boxster given that there's this obvious structural difference in air intake design?
  22. Thanks Loren. Would there be any problem in fitting the 996 Tip style bar even though my Boxster Tip doesn't have a central radiator? As in, would there be any trouble mating things up behind the bar? Instint says no, since it would just look like there's gonna be an extra stretch of intake hole in the middle of the bar. But I just want to make sure, if someone knows for sure? Thanks
