  1. I've been working on getting my 2000 Boxsera (Boxster with a Carrera 3.4l motor) to pull a little more speed on the straights, and I think the problem is clear. I'm not getting enough air into the airbox (replaced with aftermarket product from Italy) for the motor to make any power above about 85-90 m.p.h. so I end up capping out at about 125 at Summit Point instead of the 145 I'm expecting by the end of the straight. I was hoping the airbox change would help, but the way the air intake is angled on the car, I don't think enough air is getting down there. I've put my hand down the side of the car at various speeds, and I find the faster I go, the less air appears to get into the intake. I'm hoping the Kokeln scoop will help, but I want to see if anyone has used them and can comment on whether or not it actually does what I'm expecting.

    -Michael

When you figure it out tell me as I have the same problem. I have replaced the stock airbox with a larger open type airbox that has 3.5 inch tubing to the intake. I had a custon K&N filter made to flow the maximum amount of air. I cut the vent cover so that all lovers are open but part of the side cover is over the intake inlet tube (for lack of a better word). I was wondering if you have a photo of the Koklen scoop?

I also have a Dynolicious set up in my I phaone that shows that my 60 foot times are 2.43 sec with 330 foot times 6.27 sec and 1/8 mile at 9.44 sec at 79.2 mph pulling 1.13 g's. Times for a 2000 3.4 ltr 911 are 60 foot .963 sec 330 foot 5.243 times 1/8 mile 8.018 sec at 89.98 mph.

It also seems that short shifting produces faster times.

  2. It sounds like you need to make sure that the crankshaft has not moved and the timing chains have not slipped a notch - check the cam timing too.

Attached is a drwaing of the Cam Positions with the Crank pulley set at 0T-1.

Th e left side shows the Pulley Side view the right side shows the Flywheel side view. I hope you can see the lines okay!

    Thanks Again

Installing the Oil Pump with Coolant guide housing: If I read the manual correctly it states for assembly instructions follow Group 17 page 17 – 5. Looking at 17 – 5, through 17 - 8. There is no specific instructions. My problem is that the intermediate shaft is not centered so the housing will not just slip on the engine case. The front pulley was at OT 1 I am not sure if the engine has been turned over. I tried to turn the motor over but I hit resistance so I placed it back to 0T 1. Is it possible that the cam timing has changed by slipping on the chain sprocket.

    Thanks

    Bill

  4. So i am doing some research and am curious what options there are for an LSD for a Boxster S.

I am aware of the Quaife and probably think this is the best thing going, period. But since we get such great deals on parts from Porsche, i am wondering if there is an LSD off the shelf, maybe for some 997 model that can be used in the 986 S 6 speed gearbox? I looked in the PET and see nothing of the sort but I believe LSD is an option on some 997 models. If a diff exists, the question then becomes will it fit in the 986 transaxle?

Again, i think the Quaife is still the best thing going, i love the design of the unit, (ATB type) but at $1600 I am looking for an alternative that maybe a little cheaper.

Who has been down this road and what's available? Or is the Quaife the only real option, albeit a great one?

Do you really think Porsche will be cheaper?

I have spent at least $1000 this year there!

Actually YES! (how crazy is that right!) Have you ever priced parts from Sunset? If not do yourself a favor, Porsche parts are cheaper from the dealer then china parts are for any Ford from Autozone.

I'll let you know tafter this weekend as I have just put in a Quaife unit.

  7. As Loren's post shows, based upon the error codes you posted, you do not have a mixture problem. If you truly have a mixture issue, PM me your fuel trim values and I'll see if I can't help you take care of it.

    -Todd

    Todd

How do I go about get the Fuel trim values?

    Bill

Bill, they are the FRA and TRA values that you can monitor with your Durametric.

Thanks Great I will let you know!

    -Todd

  8. There is no adjustment for the mixture. That is done automatically based on sensor data. One or more sensor could be reporting the wrong value.

Is it idling high? It could be a vacuum leak.

If it had a vacuum leak, I think it would be running lean, but the sooty exhaust would make me think it is running rich.

Do you get an codes for 02 sensors? Do you still have the cats on the exhaust?

It idles around 750 RPM I have had a few codes P1275 and P1276. I have HiFlow Cats with the O2 sensors on each side of the cats on both exhaust pipes.

  9. Todd Holyoak is the expert on these swaps but I think it would be helpful to know:

    - which fuel intake did you use

    - did you go from egas (Boxster engine) to egas (Carrera engine)

The only adjustment I know is to program the DME as either a Boxster or Carrera program.

I went from an E-Gas Boxster to a non E-Gas carrera engine but purchased an E-Gas intake manifold and throttle body so I could use the Boxster Throttle Pedal .

I do have a Cold Air Box system with Headers and a free flow exhaust...

    Todd did my DME

PS In addition I use the fuel lines from the Boxster with the injectors from the Carrera

  11. check the emergency brake cable?

I have a '99 Boxster with 48k on it. Just finished a complete brake job of front and rear pads and cross drilled rotors and now I have a clicking noise from the left rear wheel. Anyone have an idea what it might be? Any help would be appreciated from my fellow Porsche lovers ! Thanks, :cursing: Jake

Make sure the pads backing plates are not hitting the disk where is sticks out toward the wheel. Some pads holes make the pade sit lower in the caliper.....

  12. I have a 2000 Standard Boxster which now has S brake Brake Disks. The fronts were done after purchasing new front calipers from a used Carrera. Which are the same as an "S" but colored black not red. I put my stock front calipers on the rear with "S" disks. The main problem is with the Ebrake on the rear as the "S" has larger ebrake shoes. I replaced the shoes with "S" models but drilled a new hole where the center spring attaches to each shoe so that they match the drums shape. I left the hole in the backing plate in the same original place but drilled a new hole in the shoes as stated above this way I did not have to change to an "S" backing plate or to an "S" Hub carrier.

  13. Looking for anyone who has installed baffels in a 3.4 oil pan. Has it helped with oil collecting in the cam cover and getting into the combustion chamber through the AOS system?

I replaced the oil pan with the X51 version. It has the baffles on it already. It fits in with no issue at all. The AOS problem still exists. You have to do more than just the baffles.

    -Michael

Thanks for the info - I guess there is no cheap alternative! :renntech:
