  1. You are at the max without some major trimming of the wheel wells and the oil line bolts on the back if the car. Best option would be to go to an r compound tire for more stick. 275's can fit on the back but the wheel offset need to be perfect and the fenders trimmed as well as the some of the suspension bolts ground down.

    I have 225/45 and 255/40 with no issues on my Carrera

    I would go with r comp 255's

  2. Hello,

    Does anyone know who sells the adapters, proportioning valve (if needed), lines etc. - minus the calipers themselves - in order to upgrade the brakes on my 87 Carrera take the calipers from an early Boxster 2.5L? I read about this on various British magazines and one gets to keep the front rotors of the Carreras but needs to change the rears to those of an SC. Sounds like a good upgrade, specially if one wants to have more power by increasing displacement or by other methods, so that the car can cope and brake as it should.

    I have been using the 2005 997 parts list that comes from Porsche. I would like to

    use a 2006 997 parts list. The link below connects to the 2005 parts.

    I have found out that the wind deflector on the sun-roof has a different part number

    for 2006. I am not to crazy about loading the PET part numbers. I wish

    Porsche would have a 2006 997 parts list.

    Are you going to update the deflector? I have an 05 with the crummy one and am thinking of doing so.

  4. Not to scare any pure porschphiles...but a windshield is a windshield. As long as it looks the same and in installed properly, it should be fine to use the less expensive ones. With my insurance, if I am unhappy with the chip repair...they take my deductible that I paid ($15) and apply it to the $50 deductible for winshield replacement. The insurance picks up the rest and does not change my rates.

    I think the key thing to look for is the dark "shading" stripe at the top of the windshield...make sure it is the same color as the original, or it may really bother you. <_<

    the dealer probably subs the installation out themselves

  5. A question that probably has been answered but couldn't find it with search engine. What is reasonable oil consumption on a 2003 Carrera 4S-- I had the oil (and RMS :( seal under CPO warranty) about 4k miles ago and when I check oil level with "electronic dipstick" on the dashboard, it only measures about one little bar from the lowest level (no low oil level yet). Is this normal or is my car consuming too much oil? The car only has 17k miles currently but is driven like the Porsche god meant... hard. Thanks for your input guys.

    Porsche will probably say its within guidelines but to me that sounds a bit much. I bought my CPO'd 997 with 2500 miles (oil changed before I took delivery on it) and now have 5500. My oil level gauge shows no change.

    I pump about 5 gallons into a half filled tank. You

    will not notice any difference. What the racing gas does is

    clean your engine. This gas will help burn the carbon

    off the top of your pistons. Look at your tailpipes after

    you run the racing gas and you will see a difference. A

    little racing gas is good.

    I ran a lay-down kart for hour long races and the piston

    tops were always clean with racing gas.

  7. Granted my 06 Boxster only has 4,000 miles so far, and I've only had her since January. But the dealership specifically said that you don't do the first oil change till 20,000 or two years. While I'll agree that seems a little odd, that is what all the books say too. White987S, why do you say not to wait till 20,000?

    (sorry if I'm hi-jacking this thread)

    Hi Jonesy, I did the first oil change at about 1,200 miles, then again at 7,500. I'll do it every year, just before winter storage, or at 7,500 miles. The oil just does not last 20,000 miles. Maybe 10-12,000 tops.

    I think the dealership and Porsche say the 20,000 miles to make the car "appear" to have a lower yearly maintenance cost, to compete with other marque brands in the marketplace. An oil change is very cheap insurance.

    I don't think you need to change the oil every 3-5,000 miles...that's overkill, wasteful, and test have shown to actually increase wear & tear.

    I have changed mine after first 1000 miles then at 6000 miles (one Year) and again next week at 9000 miles after 4 track days this year.

    In that fancy rag that Porsche mails me they touted the long oil change intervals as part of their

    "green" commitment.

    I have never heard that removing contaminents from the lubricating system is bad for an engine.

  8. Have you owned the car since new? Is this a Porsche dealer? Although you say it is a "2" It could have been delivered new less than 4 years ago and could have some warranty left. If you bought it used you should find out from the Porsche dealer the service history on the car. Porsche has had many problems with leaking rear main seals and have in fact changed the the design of the seal because of that.

    And if the leaky seal contaminated the clutch you could have more problems.

  9. Well. slight change of plans. I'm now getting a black/black/black Boxster, only has the 17's, but I've upgraded to auto climate control, TPSM, and a windstop in addition to the Bose, Xenon's, heated/power seats, and rain sensing wipers. Still for the same price though. Anyone know if you can upgrade to larger wheels and still keep the TPSM that comes with the car? I think it's actually a better car for the money, just wish it had the Boxster S wheels.

    I live in central Jersey and bought my 987s new in White Plains NY for 47k this past March. I had a warranty issue about the time the break-in period was up so I had the oil changed and the local dealer took care of both with no problem.

    I've been looking for alternatives to the PCM/Bose combo, and this solution seems to fit the bill.

    Attached is a picture for a Kenwood setup on a 987 ...

    But I've been wondering,

    Where can I find a silver panel to mount the unit on and retain the OEM look?
