  1. 997.424.983.00 Short Shifter.

Well, I don't think we ever found the number on the (blue) alignment tool. The number "on" the tool does not come up any any Porsche system.

But the 997 number will fit a 996. I bought one from someone and the number the 997 number. I thought it would be a 996 number. The white plastic tool has a 996 number, but it has a crack and though it might still work.

  2. Hi everyone,

I'm trying to remove the PCM2 unit from my 996 to fit a Gateway500 interface.

I tired the hexbolt to unlock the unit as suggested in some other of the posts, but the unit won't budge!!!

Are there some other tips/ tricks to get the unit out?

It would be nice if there was some pics of the removal process

    Many thanks

    Shap

It's not really a bolt as much as a lock. Try turning it the other way....

  3. i'll call tomorrow and get the part numbers for the different adhesive tapes. i found out one part is a double sided adhesive tape that costs approx $55 per side. the other part is listed as an adhesive kit that costs approx $215

I'm guessing the adhesive kit is for the MKI Aerokit. The MKII uses tape. Also see if you can get them to send you a copy of the book on how to install the tape so that it's placed in just the right spot. I'm thinking that is the trick. I didn't have a problem with mine till it was removed once and reinstalled.

  4. If you want a really tight fit then have a body shop epoxy glue them in place. That is the way the original factory aerokits were and they fit very tight.

The reason I say body shop is that if you use the epoxy glue then they will need to be clamped/taped in place for 24 hours to cure.

My factory ones weren't and I ordered the car with the flared sideskirts. Also If it's glued into place, what happens if it needs to be removed? Also do you have the instructions for the epoxy?

  5. Corey

just bought another 996 that has the GT3 package already on it but the sideskirts son't seem to fit flush in a couple of places due to sparing use of tape by the installer. so i'm going to reinstall them myself but don't have the instructions - you think you could make a copy of them and fax them to my home? shoot me a PM if that's cool and I'll give you my number

i'm hoping they say something about the adhesive tape pasrt number as Sunset Posrche Parts has located several different adhesive tapes varying in price from $50 to $215 so I' dlike to buy the right on the first time

    thanks!

Interesting they found adhesive part numbers.... Suncoast said they couldn't find them....

What part numbers I'd like to check them in the PET CD. I think the reason my one side doesn't flush is because mine has been reinstalled when I had the clear redone on my quarter. They used a full length of tape, but I'm thinking it's too high on the skirt so it's thickness is involved. I'm guessing there is an exact height it needs to be put on. The TSB for the aerokit doesn't mention it and I don't have a newer workshop manual for the 996 that would cover the aerokit II skirts, maybe someone here can help us.

  6. The only packs of 3m tape I have found are 5 feet long and the skirt if about 5feet 10/11 inches. Where does the tape run from and how far down from the top of the piece should it be placed. The whole length of the skirt or just twords the back where the TSB indicates you need to "roll" the skirt. I'm guessing you don't put it in the areas are on inside the wheel arch since there are bolts...

    thanks...

    Corey

  7. One of my side skirts is starting to have a gap and you can see the double sided tape. I know there are bolts underneath, but how do you remove the skirt without removing the paint.

I was thinking about using dental floss to separate the skirt from the body but cutting the tape in half, but don't know how to remove what's left without damage to either the body or skirt. Do they make special stuff to remove the tape.

Also any tips on how to reinstall to get a perfect gap...

  8. My little girl is 1 year old & is about to outgrow her rear-facing car seat (it fits fine in the back seat). She will need a forward facing car seat & my wife says it MUST be kept in the back seat for safety. Does anyone have a forward facing car seat that fits in the back seat of the 996? I went to babies-r-us and all the forward facing ones look too big. Let me know the make/model if you have one.

    Thanks!

I have both the britax that porsche OEM'd(and don't make anymore) and a regular britax seat (don't recall the model) both fit in the back of my 03 996 easily.

    Cheers,

  9. I just purchased at 2001 Carrera 4 Cabriolet and happen to see the new instrument cluster on the '03 which has the ability to cycle through items like oil check, etc in the center display. I was wondering if you can put a instrument cluster with like that into my 01 C4 as a direct replacement. The one I have just has the mph and a 2nd line of limited options in the center lcd. Any help or advice on this is greatly appreciated.

No you can't. 02 maybe, but 03 has MOST and CAN bus to communicate with the cluster.

  10. I only pulled the wheel liners back far enough to get easy access to the radiators. You could take them all the way off.

I jacked the car from the rear jack point with a lift that went high enough to raise the front off the ground also. I would definitely use jack stands - they are safer than any jack. I usually use jack stands and leave the jack under one point just in case the car falls (earthquake or pulling too hard on a tight bolt).

    So here's the procedure...

Put the jack under rear point and start jacking it up. Start to Remove the front wheel while it's still on the ground and remove it just as you come off so you don't scratch the caliper. Then jack the rest of the way up and put a stand under the front side jack point. Then repeat for the other side correct?

  11. I noticed you didn't completely remove the wheel well liners. Why? and you imply you just pulled them back with twine. How far did you losen them.

Also which jack point did you use to jack the car up and where did you put the jack stands. while I've put the car up on a jack, I've never used jack stands with it. I guess I could use my floor jack on one side and the porsche spare tire jack on the other....

  12. PCM 2 Installation

Note: Part numbers sometimes change without notice. Always double check with your supplier that you have the latest part numbers. My PCM2 unit was purchased used, from a 2003 Carrera coupe, which was upgraded to a custom stereo/navigation system. This was my experience and I take no responsibility for anyone else using these instructions). The PCM unit includes the main system plus the navigation module (the module with the blue antenna hookup). There is space at the bottom of the uni
