  1. Hi Guys,

I have a 09 997-1.1 TT with the IPOD attachment. 25% of the time I start my car the IPOD is recognized. The other 75% of the time i need to disconnect the adapter and reconnect?

Ia anyone experiencing similar issues? Any idea what the most current PCM version is for 09 cars?

    T

mine shows 1.10 but my guess there is later version of DVDs that are in parts catalog. ask your dealer

That's strange, when I go to settings I see my PCM version in as a letter not a number

I just tried my ipod this evening for the first time in my new 09 TT, don't know version number, and while it shows the ipod, library and shows that its playing, I get no sound. The cable doesn't seem to plug in very well and is easily pulled out (so had problems maintaining connectivity). I think I have either a cable problem or query whether generation 6 ipods are not compatible. I am going to check the TSB's after posting this.

  2. For my 4 y/o daughter, I carried some seats out to the car from Babies R Us and ended up with the black leather Eddie Bauer - I wanted a seat with its own harness at that point. Fits better than most in the rear. (I pulled the leather pad off the bottom of seat - it's just velcro'd - to make a little more room.

I recently ordered a Britac Star Riser (I think this is the discontinued model), which uses the normal seat belt, and I installed it behind the drivers seat last weekend. It fits GREAT and, much to my amazement, I was able to drive with my 4 y/o behind me, by moving the seat forward only slightly from my normal almost all the way back driving position. Worked out great as my wife's Cayenne S blew a power steering hose, and we managed to get the four of us (including my 1 y/o son) in the car. A true family car!!

  3. One thing to consider is the possibility that a non-OEM shifter might be used to deny warranty service - maybe unlikely, but I don't think you can completely dismiss that.

With the 996, the OEM shifter was expensive ($500+), versus $200 or so for the B&M shifter. But I just put an OEM short shifter on my 997S; they can be bought from Brandywine Porsche (usually they have it on ebay) for $329. It also comes with the housing and a plastic tool that holds the cables, so I think it is easier to install than B&M. My theory is that, for a hundred bucks, I would rather play it safe with OEM (even though I doubt there is any real functional difference).

  4. Thanks, DD694. I understand your points, but with the full install (electronics and vacuum), when you want PSE on, it still goes off between roughly 30-50mph or 50-80kph. With the 996, you can disable this by cutting a capacitor in the control module (which cuts off the speed signal to the control module) (see great writeup on this site). Because the 997 PSE is wired to the sport chrono system, I'm not sure it works the same as 996.

  5. I know there are instructions somewhere on renntech for the hack that alters the control module for the 996 Porsche Sport Exhaust to disable the cutoff between roughly 50-80 km (for Euro noise standards, makes the PSE quiet between these speeds). Has anyone done this to a 997? Doubt its the same setup as 996 since the 997 is wired into the sport chrono option (which I have).

I'm installing it tomorrow and probably won't do the electronics part of the install (for now), but may do it at some point - but would not want that cutoff operational if I do.

  6. Picked up a new Porsche OEM short shifter today on ebay, sold by Braman Motorsports (a Porsche dealer in West Palm Beach), for $300. It comes with the housing, unlike the B&M, and for this little extra I thought it was worth sticking with OEM and that the housing may make for an easier install (not that the B&M install seems difficult). Pic below. Braman says they will continue to list on ebay and might give better deals than their normal $350 price if you asked. [Javier in parts, 561-615-4877; no affiliation with them]

I have searched here and rennlist (though probably not thoroughly enough) and haven't found any DIY instructions specific to the Porsche SSK with the housing. Does anyone know where I can find them? I also saw a recent thread that said there is a special Porsche tool to check the shifter adjustments (the poster had to replace his B&M shifter with the factory before the dealer would check his transmission) - wondering whether this means its better to spend $100 or so to have the dealer install it correctly?

  7. The switch itself is a separate order (that is just the switch itself, not the main electronics). I think the PSE usually comes with the rest of the electronics needed to make the on-off switch active, but I have seen the exhausts and the electronics sold separately.

I'm sure there are more detailed threads here, but to make a long story short, installing the electronics and switch is quite a project. Cost to install just the exhausts should be $150-$250. Additional cost for the electronics is roughly an additional 6 hours labor (more or less).
