  1. ....I must say that I really like the PSE sound..... but can't decide on which mufflers system that will bring me a sound similar to the PSE?!?! :help:

I asked for the price for a PSE at my Porsche dealer, and he informed me that Porsche almost doubled the price for the system....!! :censored:

I love the sound of the PSE as in this you-tube clip

PSE is about $6995.00 these days...hardly worth the money.....

  2. I went through this same exhausting exercise when I had my 996. Do you want more sound or more sound and slightly more HP? My advice is to save money and go with mufflers that do not cost a arm and a leg. Some companys want almost 2k or more for them....plain stupid in my opinion

    I would look at these:

    M&K exhaust

    AH Exhaust

    AWE

If you want to spend big money look at these

    Tubi

    Fabspeed

    GHL

If you just want sound look into the hacked up stock pipes.

    or

look in classifieds for a used exhaust - they are available all the time.....

  3. This is a normal occurance on some PSS9s especially on the right side and when the strut is compressed then released. My 99 with PSS9s does this every so often,(also only on the Rt side) usually over a speed hump or exiting from a incline. The spring is binding at the top strut and making the clunking sound. Do a google search on Pss9 sounds/clunking. There supposedly is a kit offerred by Bilstein to fix this. To my knowledge there is no damage just the noise.

  4. here:

    http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21788

bottomline - if you want a stock 996 keep it stock. It is not bad...but to me it was kind of boring after the initial thrill of owning a 996 wore off....

if you want a 996 that sounds better and has some more power - then by all means add coldair kits, plenums and exhaust

do you want to tune the motor for all of it - add a ECU flash to optimize the mapping/timing -

total cost should net exceed - 3000.00. And if you are a smart buyer you can get it all for less.

then do you want your 996 to handle stock or better? then you are faced with other options - coilovers and swaybars...to me this was a better 1st investment to adding power. Power makes a stock 996 handle even worse IMHO because now you push the car to higher limits and the stock suspension just is not good enough, unless you desire higher amts of body roll. total cost 1900 - 2400.00

then do you like sloppy shifting? Then keep your stock shifter.....otherwise a B&M SSK (short shift kit) or for you Porsche fanatics (the Porsche SSK) will

    enhance the driving experience...total cost 199.00 for a B&M

anything over these mods....I do not see the point. Just buy a TT

  5. interesting... I LOST power with the EVOMS intake on my 99 C2 and went back to the stock airbox & K&N filter with great results... I haven't tried the plenum yet...

when you flash your car with the GIAC flash I'd be interested to hear some feedback given the mods you have...

hmmm I did not notice any power loss with just the EVOMS...but the sound definitey was changed for the better. I believe when you add any of this aftermarket crap to a 996 you have to give the ECU time to "get used to" or compensate for the changes The plenum woke it up and seems to complement the EVOMS - I guess better air flow = more power and better throttle response. My new mufflers have definitely added power and one sweet sound.

I am researching Flash options now - hopefully more to come.

  6. when I bought my 99 996 I asked all the same questions and yes many will tell you if you are looking for 30-150 extra hp dont waste your time on anything but Superchargers and a 15k price tag. I thankfully did not listen. I have added some toys to my stock 996 that I have enjoyed the results from. The RSS plenum and EVOMS cold air intake woke up my sleeper 996. I just added aftermkt exhaust and even though the sounds is quite a bit louder than stock - it is a nice addition. I will consider a ECU flash to tie it all together, but so far I do not feel any loss of any power anywhere in the rpm range. My advice is this - if you want to spend some $$$ on upgrades, Go to the forums that offer group discounts/group buys to save some money. Anything for these P cars is ridiculously expensive compared to aftermkt mustang or vette parts. We as owners have a bullseye on our backs to pay more for everything because it says porsche...buyer beware.

Most importantly....have fun doing it. Remember the Twin Turbo prices are falling quick, and will continue to drop and for mid 40s low 50s you can get all the horsepower you need.....

  7. From your list of mods, you've put a lot of money into a 3.4 litre engine that doesn't have much room for improvement in the first place. You'd be lucky if you picked up 30HP with all you've done to it. When you see the ads that say you get another 10 or 15 HP from a particular mod...that does NOT mean it's cumulative. The stock headers really aren't that bad...as a matter of fact, they're a knock off design from some of the NASCAR engines.....you won't pick up diddly squat from a set of headers. You've already done the suspension, plenum, and flywheel....the only thing that will really help you is a supercharger, which means you'll have to tear out some of the stuff you've already bought....and since I see you live in CA....you'll play hell getting it smogged....plus that's about a $10-12K add on.

Reference the question on headers...you essentially get what you pay for....the cheap ones crack at the welds and in some cases actually DETRACT from horsepower. If you're stuck on buying headers, go see Alex at SharkWerks and get the STRAIGHT SCOOP. You're chasing the same mod dragon I did in my 99 C2....then I followed the advice I got from Alex at SharkWerks' and got a TT....that's where the mods actually do some good.

Chuck, my tuner tells me the same thing.....fo-get-about-it regarding SC''s

get a low mileage TT, and the prices are getting so low it makes since....

    Until then,

I am constantly telling myself to stop with the madness of adding more than I have spent for a streetcar I luv....plenum, pss9s, EVOMS, SSK which have made the stock C2 a better car than stock no doubt

Chuck is there any HP benefit to a matching full exhaust system other than better sound - Cats/Header/Muffler on a C2 with my mods? I desire sound and more power....Seems that muffler only provides better sound, or header only is not the way to go if at all

What products would you recommend for a C2 after going through the madness and buying a TT...

And won't you end up modding it?

  8. I luv my "TimeBomb". It is a 1999 C2 with 28k miles, no warranty. I have only had to change a wheelbearing, MAF, some oil, and new coolant tank. I guess I need to dump it asap cause we all know it will blow up.......geez these topics are really dumb. Every used car can be a timebomb. I will say that you can buy any highend car now cheap as the used mkt is in the toilet for sellers. Buyer's beware and maybe you autocrossers need to be running non german cars :P

  9. Mid 40's delivered price. Lo teens mileage. Hi options. Aero kit. Leather. Nav. 18's. One owner. Metallic Blue. Said to be perfect. I am new to Porsche. This seems like an extra nice car fully priced. I have not driven a Porsche 911 but I hear it is fun. Car is out of state. Dealer is highly recommended to me found it and is prepared to bring it in for me to look at. Does this seem like a car worth buying? Would you go for a newer car at a higher price? Higher miles at a lower price? A Cayman S for a few more dollars? Or what?

    Thanks for the help. sc

I have a 1999 C2 with 23k miles. If I was to do it again, I would buy the newest 911 I could afford with a extended warranty from Porsche. I have had no engine or RMS failures ....knock on wood. But have replaced MAF sensor and had a bad water pump. You can not get a porsche ext warranty on a 1999 anymore. The car you are looking at sounds nice but is a little to high in price. You should be able to buy it in the just above low 30s to mid 30s max. Higher mileage 1999's are in the mid 20s to low 30s depending on miles. Aftermkt items add no increase to price. Run the VIN through Porshe's database to see what warranty work etc...has been done. Some of the 1999's were prone to RMS rear mainseal issues and a few had motor problems. For the 40s look for a newer 911....
